Re: Ugly Betsy.
I figured I'd dig this thread out. My interest in the truck has been revitalized. For a period my focus was finding work after a lenghty bout of unemployment. I have the truck back inside and plan on doing a little more with the motor then it's back to stripping paint and repairing rust. Here's a couple really lame videos. I don't have much else to post at this time since I lost quite a few photos in a computer crash. At this point it runs and moves.

Re: Ugly Betsy.
As usual I forgot to take some "before" pictures. I assure you that the inside of the cab was ugly. There were several layers of paint on it. I decided to soda blast the inside. I made pretty good progress. I was impressed on how well I could remove paint in some tight areas. Made I sure made a big mess too. Still plenty to do but its coming along.

Re: Ugly Betsy.
Sorry. I thought I clicked quote to answer your question. Yes the brake is stock. It does hold but how well is yet to be determined. It simply tightens a band around the drive shaft. The handle to me looks like it belongs in a tractor but I like it anyway.

Re: Ugly Betsy.
More lame video from today. Last weekend I replaced the timing cover, water pump, oil pan ect. I figured I'd toss a fire extinguisher in next to me and try to make it move. Made it to the end of the dirt road. I didn't venture beyond that. I was petty nervous. It ran very poorly. I need to invite someone over to help tune it. I can't keep it running without a foot on the pedal at this point. It started to run worse towards the end on the video. I realised that I had forgotten the snug up the distributor. I was content to get it back in the shop before anyone called the cops.

[QUOTE=PhilaTruck;4009052]280's a pretty big stick for a street 327./QUOTE]
It's in honor of all the kids in HS that gave me grief for driving an under powered car. My former BIL is a mechanic and pretty savy with the chevys. Before I started this mess I was telling him about my plans. I told him which cam I wanted. He replied "It's going to be loud, idle rough and your gas mileage will suffer". I said "Perfect. That's exactly what I'm looking for."

I don't know much about engine, but does your's have a choke on it? I'm thinking maybe she just needed to get warm. Like I said, I don't know much about engines. I do know that it sounds good.

Re: Ugly Betsy.
You've come a long way with this truck. Makes me wish I had of kept my old 63. Its legs just weren't long enough for interstate running. I replaced it with a 69 that had legs but wouldn't pull the hat off your head.

Re: Ugly Betsy.
I think they call it a cameleon paint job? I'm still polishing my skills. Today I decided to address the wood for the bed. I decided on a Spar marine grade gloss urethane. I did the same with the pine in the '71. The '63 is getting oak & SS. I sanded all of the planks from 100 down to 150 grt. Heres the first of several coats.

Re: Ugly Betsy.
No. I bought a bed kit. My last one came from Mar-K. I loved the quality & service. This one was a rare deal. I bid on it mainly as a pipe dream. It is oak & SS. I got it for under 50% of what it usually would sell for.
