Re: What year did they start with the white roof?

My truck came from the factory as silver/off white. Someone repainted it at some point, do you think it is all the factory off white now. I wish there was a better picture a few posts above, but it defintely looks similar.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?

Mitch,
This is very hard to do like this but... From the picture alone using the house I would say it is probably Ivory/off white. However the only way to know how close it is to the factory color would be to have a small amount mixed up to the color code (see chart) and compare. Your truck is listed as 4526AA OFF WHITE correct?

Now is the truck in the picture background your 68 Longhorn? If it is great. The truck in the foreground is a known Off White truck. You can see how close the trucks are in color.

Gotta remember that color scheme naming is never black, blue or brown. They get names like Raven Black, Royal Blue, Autumn Gold, Sandstone Brown, Cherry Ice, Emerald Green. These are colors of some of the vehicles I've owned.

For some reason I thought that you had a silver face on an Ivory truck. The silver is a nice color we don't see too often. Was pretty sure that was your Longhorn in the background. I had saved the pictures from that Custom Camper's final day but not a link or name. Did you save the glovebox door/SPID by any chance?

I thought it was the 67 didn't have the A pillars painted white and then after that year they did get white A pillars.

All joking aside, SSTim's information IS correct and answers the OP's question.

I wasn't joking. The OP asked "What year did they start with the white roof?". Assuming "they" is GM,since this is a GM Truck forum,I answered the question asked. We could also assume the OP only meant 67-72,since this is the 67-72 message board, but that wasn't specified and being specific to 67-72 is irrelevant since GM Trucks were available with 2-tone many years prior. If the OP meant to specify between just the top painted rather than to down to the bottom of the windshield and door windows, then '68 was the first year for the latter and '67 was a unique year. As far as what paint code and White vs Ivory, that's splitting hairs. When I look at Ivory I am seeing a shade of White.

All good points Tim. Generally when I answer a question for a specific board I try to keep it as applicable to the given years. Probably should have written 67-68 and even earlier trucks... Codes and colors are offered in the interest of being correct because it does matter to some.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?

Just to be clear...My original question was meant to pertain to 67-72, my fault for not stating specifically. Perhaps the 68 I saw was an ivory color, so the use of the word white may have been a bad choice. But Id say its been covered(not the wagons):-)

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?

I think the OP was referring to white in general. Not a specific shade. Elephant tusks are ivory, yet the same as our teeth we call white (see?>) . With all paints it's the code that matters, not the name

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?

Yes even in the six years we are talking about the sales names changed a lot but the codes stayed pretty consistant. There were changes and the Dark Blue comes to mind as having gotten a lot lighter for 71-72 than it was in the earlier years. The paint companies numbers are the biggest tell to differences in the tints. Here is an example I did showing the yellows used in Chevrolet cars and trucks some are close enough that you would think they were the same colors but in fact they are different.

But coming back to the ivory and white they were two diffrent colors with the ivory being a little muted. tended to complement the primary color vs the stark contrast of the true white.

Re: What year did they start with the white roof?

My Dad bought my truck new and when I painted it the Ivory sample the body shop did for me seemed too dark whereas the white seemed to be what the truck was originally. I went with the white and am very happy with it.

What's the code for Baby Poop Yellow? Is it one of those but under a different name? Colors also get "named" by people, such as Ochre commonly called Mustard Yellow or Light Yellow called Corn Silk, etc.
