Hey vtblazer, nice stuff! This is exactly what I want to do to my 71 Jimmy. I discovered a ton of bondo in both rear bedside panels down below the tail lights and I happen to have 72 parts blazer with perfect bed panels. It's the old If I could make one rig out of the strengths of the two.....anyway how much cutting do you have to do to remove the bed panel? Thanks for your advice

Maybe some spot weld cutting/removing around the lower rear door pillar also. Having the rocker out of the way will help to. Last edited by vtblazer; 06-22-2005 at 09:02 AM. |

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
Body mounts would be my thought on your door problems. I have a lot of the floor pan rockers etc. Cut out of mine. My doors close fine but I had windshield frame sag eventhough I had braced prior to cutting. I shimmed the old body mounts eventhough I know when I put the new mounts in it will change again. But it helped me with my alignment Seems like you got a pretty good handle on it

Had to get it out of the shop for the winter, it's still sitting outside under cover. The only thing I did prior to the cover up was to prime the bare metal areas to protect against rust. There's currently way to many iron's in the fire and this one doesn't really need to be done for 5/6 years anyway. It's for my daughter when she's 16 and right now she's only 10. |

Had some detail work to do on the area that still wasn't prepped, then it was bolt it together!
You know how that works... It took hours to do it right. So anyway, got it bolted into place and the tail gate installed too. I reused all the original bolts, they were still that nice. |

Clear as Mud
Sorry for the confusion.
Yes, it's spoken for. As in sold. [EDIT] 5/06/05 STILL FOR SALE. It's the best original tub I'll probably ever see. Heading south on June 17th, anybody need anything? Delivering the tub and picking up my panel on the way home. Last edited by vtblazer; 06-07-2005 at 02:32 AM. |

What happened to the cowl/dash/windshield frame areas? It's there in the earlier pics but gone in the later pictures.

Look closer at the front door pillar's, not attached yet. Could be installed pretty easily with a little more work and some welding. |

Change of Plans
Turns out I'm keeping this one and building it up for myself.
It'll get a 2" spring lift, zero rates, new shocks, 3/4 ton axels and a new set of 33x12.5 SSR's on some sweet old school slotted mags. I think I'll keep it a 4spd, unless botboy finaly sends me the 700r he owes me. Like that's gonna happen. (it did, he sent it, all's well) Stay tuned, firewall and windshield frame are next. Hey Kurt, I have a 700r that you can have, since you found me something I needed, just getting it there would suck, oh yea, & it needs to be rebuilt, so it's not completely a freebie, Craig

Progress is a good thing. I sectioned out the extra parts of the windshield frame I had cut off and used them as jigs to hold things in place. Last edited by vtblazer; 07-03-2005 at 07:46 PM. |

Wow, awesome! I have a 71 Jimmy that has a rust free inner tub outside of some rusty rockers, and an awsome outer sheet metal 72 blazer (doors back).............. the 72 blazer has a tub that you could almost step through it's so rusted!
I have been looking at plasma cutters and MIG welders thinking this is something I need to get into! I am a seasoned mechanic but no body work experience and only experience is with gas torches which is too crude for what I am planning......doing what you are doing. The Blazer rear quarters are perfect and my Jimmy has been rear ended and filled with cracking out bondo. Any tips? Am I crazy? Body shops have quoted me insane prices for doing this................... Thanks for a reality check in advance...Jim |
