Re: Copperhead on ebay

You're right; it's showcasing the aftermarket. But, if you recall, they never hid that fact. I think the first episode, Stacy said they wanted to show just how many pieces were available for that vintage truck. Their goal was to replace anything and everything that COULD

Re: Copperhead on ebay

IIRC, he showed that you could start with a frame, a cab and a title... the rest like you said was all aftermarket. Then he added the first 572 before it hit the street.

I got to see the truck at Carlisle but couldn't get close to it.

Re: Copperhead on ebay

If you recall, they never made any bones about the fact that they wanted to see how many replacement parts, either OE or improved aftermarket, that they could find for it (IE: ADVERTISING). It is really amazing if you think about it. There are more and more companies selling every nut and bolt for vehicles these days, but few as complete as what's available for our trucks.

And whether or not you like the seats or the color, we'd all be hard pressed to create a trailer queen that nice! (Yeah, I know, you could drive it all over, but who would?!).

Re: Copperhead on ebay

I guess it's just my age creeping up on me, but I like these old trucks. I enjoy them the way they were made barring a few improvements (adding a tilt column, slight lowering, maybe a cowl hood). I enjoy these trucks more and more when they are left closer to original. When I see something like that truck, all of the aftermarket parts detract from the whole in my eyes.

As a side note, I had the great pleasure of talking at length with a fellow named Pat Ganahl a few years ago. He was a former editor of Hot Rod magazine and others and is generally considered to be one of the great automotive writers. He told me story after story of how magazine guys would score free parts for project vehicles from manufacturers in exchange for favorable press in the magazine. Then, those parts would often mysteriously be put onto personal vehicles or sold to people at a substantial profit. It kind of took some glamor off of the magazine articles after I knew about that.

As far as Stacy David, I only know what I have read about him, but I don't own a TV so I never watched his shows. TVs tend to keep me from working on projects, so I swore them off.
