Thank you I do love the look of the red sitting underneath the bumper of the truck from afar it's an eyecatcher and the cruise was awesome I really gotta fix my tired from rubbing the fenders though damn 10 inch wide wheels on there haha

Well there has been a TON of progress this week we were able to completely sand off the 5! coats of pain,primer,clearcoat, and bondo through forty years of terrible ownership found some nasty dents underneath a literally an inch of bondo to fill a dent near the fenderwell which I would never have though they did do a good job on the restored body but they hid ALOT of problems.





So my Tailgate fender and entire bed will be taken nearby to be powderprimed entirely to then be brought back for bodywork to get ready for final paint and refinishing of the entire truck quite an undertaking for a finish date of 6/2/12

Bed is finally off to powderprimer's they say it may just be done this friday possibly? If so that woul be amazing to get the refinishing and bodywork done to it so my father will have more time to paint it. Also scored a ford 9 inch to go in the back for posi (finally maybe some traction!) just gotta make up new mounts and axles to adapt to my trailing arms and wheels I heard it's disc brake as well who knows I may just be in a autocross race someday soon haha

Powderpriming on the bed tailgate and fender was completed on tuesday and was brought back wednesday but I wont have pictures till tmrw can't wait to see it all

Good looking start.
Just getting here I will comment on an older post regarding your crank and balancer. Balancers don't just break like that. something hit it or something is out of balance, in my opinion I would keep an eye on the new balancer to make sure it is not being slowly torn apart by an bent crank.

Hey everyone been away a week or so been so busy with work and getting my bed ready for bodywork which will start saturday. also picked up a family heirloom a 1973 box stock cheyenne c/10 longbed green and white. looks pretty good in the driveway now haha. but yeah first off the rear end is a stock 12 bolt with possibly 3:73 gears in it pretty low hurts on the highway with the speed everyone else goes. and thank you to those checking in on the progress it's been a long time coming for forward progress on it. as for the balancer I'll be checking into that this weekend along with my howling rear end that needs oil only hopefully. yes the motor is definitely on borrowed time but hey its not the first time it's been worked on and it wont be the last im glad im driving it daily tho

Also I may recall when I was building the motor that it may have been dropped on the post side before being put it not a drop that would result in this event but it was unseen at the time. Also I took a look at your build from begginning to end Mike and I actually have a picture of your truck in a 67-72 chevy truck slideshow on my laptop and that was unreal I had it last year what a blast and honor to have an incredible build checking out my minor league truck haha so thank you

Yep! I was in shock when he finally posted the pic of it broken like that. I was wondering how that would have happened too.

So wheres the pics of the bed ? glad your making more progress. Is the powder prime you keep talking about a powder coating? seems like that would make a nice coating to protect the body from rusting in the future. I asked a local powder coater about powder coating a whole vehicle but they were hesitant to agree to doing it for me.

Powder PRIME is an electro magneticly charged adhesive that gets inside where as coating has to initially hit the surface like a spray gun but the elctric particles will stick to any raw surface and is so very much worth it you certainly couldn't POR or DP90 a body or frame for the price they could sandblast andprime it for and with the stuff we got we can go straight into roughing it down and ready for primer essentially. and yes I know I've missed to occasions to get pictures of it in the powder stage hopefully my dad will get one before he scuffs her up too bad haha

Thanks for checking it out, I was like you at the beginning of this process, just minor tweaks to get it safer for the road and to make it more fuel efficient. Then I started getting inspired by this board and driving my wife a little nuts. She still calls it "the other woman" LOL.
You will learn tons from this board, from your dad. Remember to have fun and map out a plan, so you done start throwing money away.

absolutely I'm sure I won't get much fuel mileage till i get a 700r which will help me a ton along with a ford 9 inch rear end I have money on getting soon. With so many ideas running rampant in my mind every night it's hard not to wanna spend spend spend haha

Finally got out there to get some pics of progress on bodywork and what the powderprime looks like out of booth


first round of bodywork on the "easy side" the headboard is clean from powderprime hardly any damage maybe a karate chop here and there


this fender lip was pushed in about an inch from possibly a parking lot pole being drug along the side


tow hooks bolted to side of bed pulled in the thin metal

Forgot to update this in as well we just got my great grandpa's truck (a 1973 Chevy Cheyenne 10 single cab long wheelbase) back into our hands last week. It had been in the family all it's life but had been sitting for a few years in a enclosed garage. This was the truck my dad first learned to drive in and lemme tell you it was pretty special to finally drive it home bringing memories back for him and letting me live those through the truck even without knowing the man myself. so here she is as dirty as we call her our "Barnfind" with 67,000 true blue original miles.

Thank you that means alot and I sure am glad he's always been a truck guy Idk if I'd really have an identity around town if I wasn't so into cars like this ole truck of mine and his grandpas. and I sure makes me proud getting compliments just filling up my truck everyday

Well boys got the call and headed out to the shop today for some updated work looks like most of the bedside is nearly done bodywork wise (major work to do on right side fender lip to bring back the damage from an unknown past) but she's coming along. slapped some dp90 on the bedrail and top of headboard to protect from the weather surface rusting this clean piece before we even finish it. so take a peek tell me what ya think



Right bedside done right with metal to metal bondo material then skimcoated this was the side with major damage



this side sucked in from a past accident virtually unseen on the truck when it was yellow but now you ca tell the body is off about a half inch or more.



driver side very clean about 90% finished



Boy do these stake pockets look amazing looking down the rails my dad did an incredible job putting time into making them look right

Well enough pictures for now to make the slow loadup even slower looks like it'll be another two full days to make this bed cherry inside and out big thanks to my padre for all the hardwork he's put in this truck lately and for the past few years it certainly shows when I get those thumbs up around town

Hey guys been gettin more work on the bed done lately but since I'm getting closer now I was just curious on what anyone knew about the wood beds in these things I have the original wood and it looks like they've painted it possibly? and there are also a few planks that have split and arched over time. Now I've heard that soaking the arched end in water will give them the ability to flex and I'll just need to clamp them down to a point to get them to stay. Now after that I will most likely plane them to get a solid surface again and then stain them a light tint to give them a sealer is their any opinions or ideas to help with this process?? much appreciated

I've been having some serious thoughts lately and I think I wanna go with airbags on this thing just straight bags with schrader valves on them so I can air up/down manually front and back seems pretty simple to do so remving the coils and putting brackets so what I wanna know is if this will drastically change my ride quality as in I want it to ride alot smoother currently I have to use three spring twist in's on both front springs and it's not enough to keep from eating up my tire any opinions on this?

What are your tires getting eaten up by? Is it a wear problem or is it a tire rubbing the fender well issue? If your tires are just wearing funny, the putting bags in is not going to solve the problem, it might even make it worse. Sounds like it is an alignment issue.

It is a little more than just taking the springs out and putting in bags and brackets. In order for it to ride nice there is a whole lot of design that goes into getting the ride height where the bag is at its optimum pressure. Think of bags like tires. when you have a tire that is low on pressure and you turn a corner the tire will compress and roll and the vehicle will feel loose, same if you have over filled the tires, they will give a hard and bouncy ride as the tire is bouncing like a basketball. If you don't get the ride height calc'd in just right and you weld the brackets in the wrong place, and you have a deflated or over inflated bag to achieve the ride height you want then your ride will be worse than with steel springs. but if you do some math and get the proper set up so the bags are at their optimum pressure at ride height then you will have a better ride than steel springs.

Now you will notice that auto crossers and race cars still use steel springs for suspension, that tells me that bags are good for cruising and comfort but not great for performance, it all depends on what you want your truck to be.

What are your tires getting eaten up by? Is it a wear problem or is it a tire rubbing the fender well issue? If your tires are just wearing funny, the putting bags in is not going to solve the problem, it might even make it worse. Sounds like it is an alignment issue.
Oh okay very valid now I believe afte talking to another guy that has dropped these trucks (since I'm not altering the stock supension setup at all other than replacing the coils with bags) that all I will need to do is bolt the upper bracket into the a-arm and then provide a spacer with the correct ride height and I should be golden as far as that goes as for the back that's more than easy to my comprehension. These bags will only be for ride smoothness and at car shows ill drop it to the fender for a nice look to get their attention. As for the tire being ate up it is because of my 10inch eagles that have the wron offset for this low of a truck so I need stiffness from the bags to boost it up a tick I'll post a pic of the tire tonight
