Re: Shawno72's long overdue 68 daily driver build thread

I don't have any pics but I added another 5/8" block to the rear end and installed a pair of CPP 5" rear drop springs. Here are some pics of Mark G and I getting ready to leave my house and head to the local A&W

Re: Shawno72's long overdue 68 daily driver build thread

Just to show its a daily driver here is some hale in the back of my truck after a quick and heavy down pour. The other pic of the 70 GMC next to my truck is my buddy Steve's, who gave me the booster and rally wheels. He paid $10,000 for that truck and it was a complete nut and bolt frame off. It was done about 10 years ago but still looks great, he stole that thing.

Re: Shawno72's long overdue 68 daily driver build thread

I decided to swap out the old knocking 292 for a V8 small block. After talking to Ray (KrazyRay) I picked up a great rebuildable 327 to be era correct for $100. Side note here, Ray posts a lot of stuff on here for sale and all I can say is I wish everyone was as generous and professional as Ray. He is like 2 or so hours away from me but always manages to deliver me my parts on his way through. Ray you are a great guy and have become a friend, thank you. Guys buy his stuff. Ok anyways here is the 327 before and after I somewhat cleaned it up.

Re: Shawno72's long overdue 68 daily driver build thread

Ok the 327 will still go in someday after I rebuild it but for now my father in law asks if I would like to buy this 350 with camel hump heads for $400. I think great I can put the camel hump heads onto the 327 and have an era correct engine for my truck, not that I am a purist or anything, I just thought it would be cool.

Re: Shawno72's long overdue 68 daily driver build thread

Well as I am tearing the heads of the 350 I find this in the cam slot and once I look into the cyliders I can still see a lot of cross hatching. Someone has rebuilt this not long ago. I make the decision to keep the 350 and just reseal and paint it. It gets new oil pump, new fuel pump, new water pump, new billet HEI distributor, new Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, rebuilt Eddy 1406 carb which is later swapped out for a new one. New ceramic shorty headers, new plug wires and spark plugs, new chrome alternator, new harmonic balancer. At the same time I do the engine swap I install a new power steering pump and new power steering gear box, she's fun to drive now. Also I install a new 4 core radiator and new hoses.

My mom always had the best advice. It was just a tad late. After a fall that involved blood, she'd say....."Careful!"

Re: Shawno72's long overdue 68 daily driver build thread

I went with Magnaflows for the first time and here is how I ran the exhaust the first time, they exited in front of the rear wheels. Sounded really good and zero drone. I also forgot to mention earlier that the engine came with a gear drive which was cool for about 2 minutes so yanked it out and installed a good ole double roller.
