Awesome. looking to drop my 5500 project but with the tall Cummins, it's not looking like I will be able to get that low.

How much room is there above the engine to the bottom of the hood? Could you raise the motor any?

Question Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

for clearance isuses we are going to set the motor right behind the cab, all the "stuff" up front and under the hood gas, air, tanks anything that will fit. wanting ideas here. I could use the 327 it came with just clean it up- or go with something all together diffrent. LS with turbos, big block, skyes the limit here because there are no room restrictions and it is going to be "out there" ware everyone will see the handy work. I'm thinking cleaner the better hear, If a LS motor then it would have to be clutered pretty good. how bout the exhast ran forword and ran up throu the hood?

Here is a few more, pic's. I will take some more of the truck in a day or 2. We have started striping the frame, and are about to get the motor and trans out.

Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

I like your concept renderings, but are you going with a c/10 front end, or are you staying with the snub nose sheetmetal, and running boards?

if you stay with the snub sheetmetal, and running boards, the cab/ frame won't have to go as low, but it will still look like it is...

That's quite a "big" project. Just my opinion, but I think it would stand out more,be cooler, with the L cab as it is. Let it be the LCF that it is,not just another C cab.

Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

Yes we are going to use the snub nose cab. The fenders are gonna get cut off and moved up some. We are planning on using the running boards as well. how much the fenders can be moved up will determine how low the cab will actually sit. The pics show a regular c series cab only because I couldn't find a snubby cab, the pics are screen shots from Google SketchUp.

Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

The truck currently has a 327 in it that runs pretty good, the truck only has like 40k miles on it. We are considering 4 options for the power plant:
1# Use the 327 and mod it to use LS fuel injection.
2#Go with a Fuel injected Big Block.
3# Just swap it for a 6.0 LS
4# some scarry big caterpiller Diesel- or somthing totaly out of the box.
We have access to all sorts of engine options here, we are throwing it all to the wall on this one and seeing what sticks. We are trying to stay away from a semi truck look, but are thinking stacks would look pretty sweet tucked inside the frame rails then just poking out from a hole just before the frame bend? let us have it -we want to hear it all.

What do you all think? What your opinions on the engine?

Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

I think a big block would look better between the rails.

Scooter, You should look around for a front axle off a Volvo or Sterling car hauler, They already sit low, Might save some work.

I wonder if they are narrower? I'm kicking around the idea of cutting 6"-12" out of the current axle.

Some one some were made this pics of my LCF as a low-rider, I'm not a low-rider fan, but I'm not the Truck Police either, I may like my trucks to be more on the stock side, but I have never stopped anyone form doing what they want to do with their truck.

Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

This is going to be a cool build im currently parting a LCF cab I picked up cheap I'm planning on making a dresser out of the hood haha I think it would be cool of course my wife will want a divorce when i tell her im bringing it in the house so in the end it will end up in the junk pile behind my garage. Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

Sorry for no updates, We haven't had much time to work on it lately. The shop is picking up so fun stuff has to wait. We do have the frame about striped down and almost ready to start cutting! I do believe I am going to cut and narrow he fron axle a bit, 6-8" or so. That way we can keep the original one in it.

On the engine, not to get carried away, but first thing that came to my mind with that kind of length was maybe a little 'jet' engine-maybe.

on the engine, I do have an extra 16V71 TT, put an allison trans behind it. Keep it all GM, don't think anyone has ever used a 16 before, forget the little stuff like a 12V.

Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

We are trying to build this truck on a budget. I kinda thing slamming a 2ton truck to the ground is pretty radical enough without going to crazy on the engine. W have located a 572 big block but the gu still wants $5k for it. We are still a ways away for an engine install.

Re: 1966 Snub-nose C60 project

If you looking for reliability with some guts try a 8.1 (496 cu) out of a early 2000's chevy truck. There a good running engine with more guts than a 6.0. I have one in a Suburban that I really like.
