Re: Don't let this happen to you
It was a big hit but that frame can be pulled back out to make it right again, no problem. Also they will pull the cowl forward to line that door up again. So you are looking at most of the front clip and frame and cowl pull. She'll be rolling again like before. Didn't even break the windshield did it? Sucks when it happens. Been there too.

Re: Don't let this happen to you
Sorry to hear about your truck, glad to hear you and your boss are OK though.
A couple of things to check into though. You may be able to save the frame. There are many very good frame alignment machines out there now and a good frame alingment shop (body shop) might be able to straighten it without much problem. If you pull off the front sheet metal before you have it estimated it will be easier for a frame shop to evaluate the damage to the frame. Another possibility is checking with local colleges and trade schools about doing the repairs to your truck. Years ago (close to 40) I took a Trade school course in body repair. The school took in vehicles that needed major body & frame repair for us students to learn on. The school charged a very modest amount to fund the school and the cars left in absolute beautiful condition. If the cars weren't perfect the instructor wouldn't let them leave. Just a thought. Hopefully a Real Body Man will chime in here. I never became a body man, the chemicals - lacquer thinners and such tore my hands up but I do work on my own stuff on occasion. |

Re: Don't let this happen to you
One more thing with insurance co. Had this happen to a friend....got hit at redlight..other drivers fault...insurance offered 3k for truck as totaled...owner had 6k in it....worth that at time.....owner refused and threatened lawyer...insurance co went to TEXAS DMV and saw owner had SHOWN paying $1200 (not the purchase price) 3 months before.....owner was not smart enough to claim motor dead..tranny dead....anything to counter this....he got scared and took 3k.....do your homework......jim

Re: Don't let this happen to you
I hope that the person that waved them out was included in the accident report. They are very likely liable as they should have been cited for a violation. What they did is called directing traffic which is illegal.

I just get a sick feeling in the pit of my gut when I see that burb.
The first thing I did be fore I even registered and insured mine was to get an appraisal which I hope will help if I ever get into a situation like this. Hope all works out well for you. Bob |

Re: Don't let this happen to you
Thank you very much for that invaluable information Saa.I need to do my home work and nail down a market value for my Burb.We refused the hospital ride and I think I remember saying I hit my knee and my lip on the wheel. My boss hit his head on the dash as well as his left fore arm.His right elbow put a nice dent in my door just above the arm rest. Thanks again for the the info this helps point me in the right direction.

Re: Don't let this happen to you
I would say that if you had genuine OEM chevy parts then insurance is required to give you the money to replace them with genuine oem parts. I would not take anything less then the value of NOS parts. They are out there, just got to find them.
