Re: DropmemberC4

Thanks for the quick responce. You answered most of my questions. Im not clear on what you meant in regards to the steering shaft. I was asking if the drivers side upper a-arm mount will have the mount that has the steering shaft support welded in place at the correct angle? I saw this in the post for the truck arm crossmember. The only other question was the headers. Do you have a known set that will work or do you offer them? Headers are difficult for this application due to the variations in engine mounts and postioningf the engine along with narrow frame rails. Do you know if the factory truck style a/c bracket and a/c compressor will work? My current mounts allow this but its very tight and I suspect my mounts have the engine lower and further back than yours. I will try to get you a picture.

There are still a few unknowns with the DropmemberC4 and GenIII (LSX) combination... I am yet to do an install with this combo, but have one in line. I will then have some better and more sure answers to your questions.

The original Dropmember and DropmemberC4 share near identical clearances (as far as engine mounting clearances). The Dropmember fits the LSX motor without any firewall mods. On these motors, truck accessory brackets will work on the driver's side, but the A/C compressor and bracket on the pass. side will not fit due to the rack and pinion. I have been using a bracket and compressor kit offered by Street and Performance. The factory F-body and vette brackets and accessories are definitely out, they set the alternator and A/C compressor too low.

Once I do the install on the Blazer I was referring to, I will be able to give you definite answers as far as headers and steering. I anticipate it being just as the original Dropmember and LSX combo, but will not be for certain until I do it. I will definitely keep everybody up to speed.

Re: DropmemberC4

Hey Nathan I was thinking about the C4 setup and how next truck i build i am going to use the C4 setup. Since it narrows the track width one could run a 10" wide tire up front and still be able to turn the truck right? I might be ordering another one near the end of summer if all goes as planned.

I believe a 10" wheel will fit without any clearance issues (with the proper offset). I will be installing a few of these over the next couple months and will get back with some definite answers. One is going in a 71 blazer, another in a 72 SWB, and the third in my newly acquired 62 Panel.

Re: DropmemberC4

Yeah please let me know what the max backspacing one can get away with up front. Also when one goes with the C4 control arms does that mean they have to go with a C4 spindel? I was curious about the bolt pattern. I know you can have things redrilled but was wondering what the stock pattern might be. I would guess 4 3/4. Anyways i will talk to you later.

Correct... the control arms, spindles and brakes from the Vette are used. The Corvette has a 5x4.75" bolt pattern. I will definitely let you know on the backspacing.

Been out of town for a couple of days...

The Shockwave is a SKW1030. Is is the Shockwave designed to be used with the C4 components.

Sounds like a loaded question!

The pros are: Bolt-in; C4 components; rack and pinion; improved suspension geometry and thus performance; suspension system designed specifically for the C-10 chassis; decrease in unsprung weight; fabricated crossmember... not stamped; added crossmember to ground clearance; quality product.

Cons: trans tunnel may need to be modified for bell-housing clearance (needs the "large-hump" floor), motor moves up and forward slightly and would necessitate exhaust, drive-shaft, and other hoses/lines/ linkage mods and or changes.

That's all I can think of right now... if I come up with more I will definitely share.

Nathan,

My Dad's got a 55 Cameo and looking to ditch the straight axle front end. Do you make a bolt-in dropmember for the 55-57 chevy trucks? He's not a big fan of layin frame either, so I guess some type of coil over in place of the shockwaves?

I am working on a Dropmember for the 55-59 chassis, and the 47-54 chassis as well. They will bolt-in, and will be offered to use either C-10 suspension components, or Corvette C4 components. I anticipate the 55-59 Dropmember to be available in or near the end of March. A coilover will be an option.

I'm all set for front suspension but I wouldn't hesitate to go with the PB setup if I were putting together a new truck that utilized a stock or stock-ish frame.

Re: DropmemberC4

Whats the status of the C4??? I'm thinking of doing up my 67 with a C4 Dropmember and coil overs. I want it to sit 4" off the ground! I wish this was out when I did my 63 sub. Too bad I welded in my crossmember!!

Nathan,

I think I read somewhere that your C4 install on the Blazer is coming along. Any info on headers/exhaust that work well with the C4 Dropmember?

I'd be interested in this. I put a C10 in a 58 the hardway. Narrowed the rails. A bolt in would be nice.

Re: Dropmember C4

Thought I would brush the dust off this thread! The DropmemberC4 has been selling pretty well, and has undergone a couple minor design changes (mainly to aid in its assembly). I took these pics just before I shipped this one out a couple weeks ago.

Re: Dropmember C4

Nate,

That is AWESOME!!!! I can't wait to see mine in person.

I just gotta try and come up with the C4 k-member closer to home.

I'm headed to Dallas tomorrow. Maybe I can find one there for a good price.
Anyone on here have a line on a C4 k-member for a good price in the Dallas area, or maybe even in the Memphis area? I'm in Arkansas so either is within driving distance.
