Re: final assembly begins! 51 GMC

WOW, GOOD JOB, Nice work now for the many runs to the Ace for screws and bolts you don't remember where they are !!!!
Did tiy get your Evap. installed? did you keep the cowl vent? did you have trouble with the hoses to the defroster??
I had the same question on the tail pipes and bed floor, is there really that much room?

Hey Kid, now that you are finished with your cab dolley and cab frame for the hoist, put them on a Grayhound and send them to me, well at least make a drawing with some measurments so I can make some for my cab!!

Thanks

Re: final assembly begins! 51 GMC

I thought there was alot of room till I started stuffing stuff under the dash. I mounted the evaporator in front of the pass. side inner fender. With careful planning during locating the Gen 11 compac unit, I did manage to route the defrost hoses & still keep the cowl vent, Oh & solidaxel, as you mention, the exhaust is prety close to the bed floor (3/4") but the bed floor will be metal, I want to put some asbestos between just to keep excessive heat away but have not figured out how to yet. I am afraid if I wrap the exhaust it will corode prematuraly. I might end up fabing a shield for the exhaust tube & mount with hose clamps

Re: final assembly begins! 51 GMC

Finally some progress.. just returned from my second shake down run this evening. After a little over 2 years of work, damn what a feeling to take it for a spin. Trucks not quite done, still need to get a "GMC" hood emblem, & get the carpet installed. The wife & I took it out for the first time last Sunday. We identified a couple of bugs to work out, had a vibration on the hiway, chased it down to wrong retainer clips on the rear u-joint, allowing the drive shaft to have some side play. The LSX motor with the Speartech reworked computer runs awsome. Next step is to change out the 3.23 gears for some 3.73's. Anyway, I took a couple of pictures. I am pleased with the way she turned out. I'll try to get some more pics uploaded soon. Below is a link to the build thread so all can see where this started. Enjoy, I know I enjoy checking out everybodys build threads on this forum

Re: final assembly begins! 51 GMC

gotta have cruise control for those long trips to the Goodguys show. Mounted on the kick panel in the background is the MB Quart cross over for the 6.5" speakers in the doors.
The grill hides the trans cooler & A/C dryer shown here.

Kid-

What size rims and tires did you go with? Are they American racing?
Your truck looks great.

Thands Youngrodder, the wheels are American Racing 18 X 7 & 20 X 10. Tires are Goodyear 235X45X18 & 295X40X20.

Re: final assembly begins! 51 GMC

Kid-

Thanks for the wheel and tire info. What color is your truck? Sometimes it looks light gray, other times it looks off white. Is it a factory color?

I bet that you are getting excited. Mine is going for paint soon, so I hope to be doing final assembly this winter.

youngrodder
the color is somewhere between grey & green, to me it looks like an original color that belongs on the truck. It don't have a name, just some Dupont Chroma One I found in a color book. By the looks of your avatar, looks like you got a nice project going.

Re: final assembly begins! 51 GMC

KId-

My project is getting there. It is a 48 with an 95 LT1 vette motor and air ride. It will be going off to the body shop later this summer. I am just finishing up some of the fab work.
If mine turnes out 1/2 as nice as yours I wil be all set. Yours reminds me of more of a resto rod. I chose to go more of the custom street rod route.

Thanks for sharing your information

Re: final assembly begins! 51 GMC

youngrodder,
I like your stance. your trucks looking real good. What does your air ride consist of? Looking forward to seeing some updates of your project. I told my self after bagin my kids 66 chevelle wagon that I would not go with the 3/8" valves & lines because its just too quick (in the rear) I am thinking about changing out my rear lines back to 1/4" to slow it down.

Been busy last couple of days, got the seat frame & steering wheel painted, put back together & took her for a cruise this afternoon. Thought I'd share a few more pics.
