Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Took on a 87 mile drive and took this picture, no problems other then the break lights work intermittently but running lights always work. I think I’ll put a new headlight switch in and see if that fixes it.

They are doing pretty good actually, pretty loud and can give some vibration but I think ill leave them for a while.

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
It’s a shame they would be well over 1500 for new tires and everything for them, I plan to just get some 17” steel rims and it should look almost exact.

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Here’s what I’m working with for floors, super good minus 2 pinholes in the driver side. Anyone know what would be causing water to come in from the bottom corners (kick pannel area)? Like where the floor and cowl vent meet?

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
That is THE spot where there is ALWAYS rust, at least in drier parts of California. I think leaves get down in there from the cowl and soak in rainwater and stagnate in there.
That looks damn good to me, I wouldn’t mess with that!

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Any leak from the windshield will end up in that spot. Really, any moisture from above will collect there.
These trucks pretty much all have something in that spot if they weren’t always garaged. That said, you have a great truck there. Enjoy it!

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Changed the front diff oil and tranny, front diff was very nasty and the tranny was pretty clean. And looks like the front diff didn't seal with the new gasket and has a smaller leak.

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Like 68bowtie mentioned debris gets stuck in the cowl vents and water then collects instead of draining. See links for more information on cleaning the debris out.
https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=825070 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=544201 Water from wet boots and any leaks from the windshield area will also end up there too. She's looking good with her new bumper. I do likes me a K model with white bumpers.

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
I am saying this partly in jest: Quit looking, you can't handle the truth.
Note the similarities to your floor picture and mine (a little worse). The first picture is my original floor (current build) which looked .... ok. Started digging (as usual). Second picture is the lower driver's side kick panel removed and the a pillar full of gooooo. Things only get worse. Your truck looks really cool the way it is. IMO, if you just want a great looking driver don't dig too far. She will break your heart : ) |

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Well I might have to fix it, there’s a pin hole in the kickpannel that’s letting water in and rusting the floor worse.

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Got an update for you guys, truck is parked for the winter, but before that I got a super nice matching box! Big upgrade.
Not bolted on yet, but next on the list I think will be a NP205 swap and then gears to possibly a 3.73. I don’t want to mess with swapping a overdrive in and just need to be able to go 65 and 3.73 seems to be perfect is there a chance that gearing would be not enough for the truck or would it be fine?

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Three Seven Three is perfect for these trucks. That's what I have in my '68 C/10 Stepside, my '71 GMC Jimmy, and had in my '67 K/10 Suburban.
Nice looking bed.

Re: 1968 GMC k2500 Stepper
Going to be working on it here in a week or so when it gets nice out,on the last drive the vent window swivel pin broke so I’ll need a whole new vent window it looks like and I’ll rebuild them both while there. Anyone have any experience with interior red parts matching correctly? Worried the LMC red interior parts look off.I need a dash pad and arm rests.
