Youngrodder (or anyone else), have you installed below dash LED lights? Maybe in-the-door LED's? Obviously, these same LED's or maybe smaller ones could work great for that but I'm wondering what kind of housings you'd use in the under dash ones? I'm tinking lights that come on with the door opening but you might want to also have a switch on them to turn on one or the other while driving in case you dropped something or wantd to see something you put on the floor. Ideas?

The ones that I saw I didnt care for the housings. Heres the idea I settled on mainly because it would be cheap and clean. I was going to purchase two small strips of LED lights and double side tape them out of sight on the bottom edge of my lower dash panel. I will also have a center console running down the middle so the idea as to put on strip of lights on each side. You could just hook them up the the light swtich if it has a reostat. Then when you turn the light dail all the way to on side the light would come on even with the doors closed. I will also tie the dome light into the same switch.

Here is a link to the lights.

You can also get them in many colors. but I would stick with white.

Re: 1947-53 LED dome light retro fit

If the under dash lights are tied into the dome system they will turn on when the door is open. If you use a modern GM headlight switch you can turn them both on with a twist of the knob. I also thought about under dash lights but may not. If I do it I may put them under the bench seat facing forward. I ran my dome light wireing across the floor, had to much trouble running it in the roof as original, so the wiring is already under my seat, I just have to tap into it. At this point the 42 LED panel I have is plenty bright enough!

Re: 1947-53 LED dome light retro fit

Not to take this thread too far off topic but....Youngrodder, have you had any issue with the Dynamat sticking to the roof of the cab? I'm also wondering what condition the metal was re: rust?

My '57 has crystalline rust on the can ceiling. I'm gonna sand it off and seal it with KBS. HOPEFULLY, that will adhere fine and roof temperatures won't give me a problem but I wanted to ask.

Dan-

No truck question is off topic..ha ha

No issues with sticking to the roof. I had more trouble with it sticking to the inside of the doors...

4DSEVEN-

Your welcome. I'm glad others can benefit. I also just received my rope LED lights. I made mention of this idea in an earlier post. I plan to attach them to the back side of my lower dash panel. This will provide some light for my feet. With these lights you can cut bulbs off of the string, so it will be easy to adjust how bright these are.

If I get some juice to them anytime soon, I will post some more pics.

Marc

Re: 1947-53 LED dome light retro fit

Update!!

I purchsed a pair of these LED flexible strip lights. They are cheap ($7.99 including shipping) and come with double sided tape already applied. You can also trim lights off of one end if it is too bright to suit your taste.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/350542840298...84.m1439.l2649

I just finshed installing them on the underside of my lower dash panel pointing down to the foot wells. I must say they really help to lighten up the cab.

I have eveythting wired up to door jam switches. It all works great.

Re: 1947-53 LED dome light retro fit

I finally got the led lights for the dome light in the mail. It takes pretty well exactly as long as they say it will for them to get here so be patient if you order them. I think mine took almost four weeks to get. I tried them out on a battery and they are BRITE.
I ordered an eight inch long led third brake light a few days ago that will go up in the back window of the 48 and hopefully only be visible to the outside when it's on.

Re: 1947-53 LED dome light retro fit

VWNate-

I can get a pic but I will wait until I install my black carpet as it will provide a better idea. Right now when I have the lights on they reflect against the silver backing on the Dynamat. I might throw the carpet in this weekend.

Mr48Chev
My lights arrived a lot fast than 4 weeks, I must have lucked out but for the money you can't go wrong.
