Re: Found a 54...
can a mod move this post to project/builds. Have a few updates on recent purchases, i had a 25x15 slab poured beside my house for a future carport, got a husky 3hp compressor, waiting on a hobart 180 welder to come in, and i now have a danforth crossmember waiting to be installed. I and i took a wirewheel to a few spots i was worried about. The top of my tailgate is mostly expanding foam topped off with bondo. The area where the po fiberglassed the gas filler hole shut probably had a 1/4 inchvof bond but no rust so ill be able to just patch that. It looks like im gonna have to replace or make a patch panel for my driverside rear fender. Gameplan as of now is startvpulling apart front end get the new crossmember welded in and install various s10/blazer cimponents. then start patching the cab up... I barely have been able to touch this truck due to working pretty much everyday for the last few months plus training the pointer. I'm bout to have a little more time on my hands to get this truck rolling as i have a dealine when i want it to at least be driveable. I will post pics of new stuff when it stops raining

Re: Found a 54...
heres some pictures of what previous owner thought was a great idea.. Front end metal is all swiss cheesed... I think if it ran into a bush it would have crumpled... Radiator is just dangling by tie wraps. And some more pictures of an 80's mustang front end swap

WOW, very solid truck. Even with the issues. Find that in Alvin? Know of any others? I would love to find something like that.
Hate to ask....but what was the price on that rig? |

Re: Found a 54...
Is it a long bed or short bed?
Are you gonna keep the spare tire mount? |

Re: Found a 54...
I think, even with the issues, you didn't do to bad.
It is a wake up to all that the pretty outside, of a AD, can hide some ugley underneath. Still a very workable truck IMO. Ratty 46 |

Re: Found a 54...
Ok well slowly but surely im getting it torn apart... Turns out he did hack at the frame some in the front... Im not really an expert but yall think it could be fixed correctly or should i start lookin for a frame.. Im planning on boxing the entire frame either way. after seeing his firewall job i think im going to just say screw it and give it an entire b1tchin front end, front floor pan, firewall, inner fenders and core support. Heres some pictures.. not much accomplished for my week off but holidays and family kept me busy.

Re: Found a 54...
Yah apparently the guy had access to a cutting torch and took advantage of it.... but thankfully no access to a welder so i havent had to break out a cutting wheel yet...

Re: Found a 54...
Could it be fixed correctly? Yes.
Worth fixing, no. An original frame or even a S10 frame could be had for less tha $200.00, and that would put you in a better situation eithor way. |

Re: Found a 54...
Do you have any updates on your build? I am specifically interested in the S-10 crossmember setup. I would like to order one but from the other post i have seen which is 1 it was in the early stages of development.
Thanks |

Re: Found a 54...
Did you say that chassis is from a 50, and your truck is a 54?
You may want to check the deminsions of the bed on the 54 and rear frame area and see if the chassis are all the same, just say'n!

Re: Found a 54...
I'd take that old frame to the scrap yard and get some $ for it, it will help recoup some of the your money.
