Re: All these lowered trucks ??

Does it really matter what people do with THEIR vehichles as long as they are doing something with them? Car guys/gals are all very similar but with different visions. Appreciate the time, effort and investment and don't dwell so much on whether YOU like it or not.

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

I've lowered all my trucks for 21 years now.

Just last night I ordered 500 dollars worth of parts from Early Classic for my 63 project, so it's getting lowered too. I see no end in sight.

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

I don't care for lowered trucks either. In my eyes they just don't look right. I guess my thought has always been if you want something to sit as low as a car and ride like a car, then buy a car.... or an El Camino. Again, that's my opinion but in the end you are allowed to do to your own vehicle whatever makes you happy. It all comes down to personal preference and usage. Considering how much back road driving I do it wouldn't make any sense to lower a truck because I would get it high centered on a rut in the road.

It doesn't matter what you do. According to the movies, we'll all be driving hover cars in a few years anyway.

Unhappy Re: All these lowered trucks ??

Well, I guess I'm glad I sold my '92 xcab with the 5/7 drop. whew!

Should I send back the drop springs, tubular control arms and c-notch that I just got from CPP for my '69?? I don't wanna be driving around in an ugly truck!

Dang it, where did I put the stock shackles I took off my '05 GMC? That 2" drop is hideous to me now...

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

Trucks that sit at factory ride height or lowered, slamed laying frame whatever you want to call it is personal taste. A 4x4 that is sitting 30" off the tires looks out of place to me. My opinion.

Just a note on the corvettes. I don't remember anybody that I know of that cut there 63 to make it into a 64. I have owned 3 vett's myself and ran with that corwd for awhile and never ran across one that I know of.
If that was done the car itself was ruined as far as value weather they put it back or not. Once done the car value is gone.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

i think that if done tastefully any hight can look good
i have a 68 k10 with a 4 inch lift, and i have a 71 k10 that is stock heightwith the exception of 31's,
once my 68 k10 is done i will begin work on my 69 that will sit about 4 inches from the pavement when finished, and i also have a a stock 68 c20 that is just a beater and i think they all look great and the heights i have them
but im not into the extremes, like 30's on a donked out 2 whee drive, or hydraulics that can shoot you and your 14" daytons to the moon, and those are just a few of the more frequent mods that youll see runnin around that really stick out as untastfull, but in the end its all just personal preference and if someone puts the work into any vehicle to make it unique they deserve respect for doing it weather or not its to my liking

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

This is an interesting thread. Although some of the responses make me want to ,while others make me , and some I just . Just think how dull our trucks would be if they were all the same. The variations in our trucks in looks and in their stance is what makes our trucks pleasing to the eye. Then again we have and trucks which make them naturally pleasing to the eye.

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

Lowering a truck (especially a mild drop) isn't a modification of no return. It's nothing that couldn't be turned back to stock with an afternoon and a few parts.

As far as lowered trucks making someone barf...apparently you have a weak stomach sir and should seek some medical attention and counseling!

I'd much rather see em lifted or lowered then I would to see them painted up with the godawful pastels of the 80s. Sure, paint can be redone as well, but it's much more time consuming then swapping out suspension parts.

Lowering and lifting trucks/cars is just another modification that people do to personalize their vehicles. A personalized vehicle will grab my interest much quicker then one that still looks like it did when it left the showroom.

In the meantime...keep your supply of barfbags ready buddy!!

Mild drop is cool always is always was. But scrapin' pavement don't do it for me. Kinda like 18's and bigger wheels don't either. Thought of this after seein' some rides, anything with more than 6 spokes is just to ''ricey''!!!

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

wow I didn't mean to start something, but it IS enjoyable to see the different opinions. I agree to each his own. I hope we all don't go DONK with our trucks in 15 years. I wonder how many of the guys going DONK had to raise their rigs about 12" because they were previously lowered into the weeds.

I agree some things will always be cool. But not too many people are putting 14" wheels on vehicles right now, so things DO change...

Anyway, have fun with the discussion, but be nice...

I can appreciate both. This is a case of TASTES GREAT! LESS FILLING! Guys, do what you want so long as you keep our classics off the scrapper. No matter how you look at it, they are, after all, still the "heartbeat of america." IMHO

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

What makes me cringe a bit is the radical modifications to get them flat on the ground. I mean, a 4/6 drop is a bolt on deal and can be undone at any time. But, cutting up a bed floor, monster bridging the frame and such as past the point of returning to original.

I have seen some beautiful original trucks around me locally that have got the cut bed floor, monster notch thing. Around here at least, they never get finished and usually wind up parked behind the barn to rot. I hate that. You know the type, holes in bed floor, no wheel wells, mismatched wheels / \ negative camber. Seems such a waste.

And, I do see it as a fad. Basically anything that is that radical tends to ebb and flow. I remember when our parents (and more senior members here I;m sure) used to jack up the back of their Torinos, Chargers and Novas. That fad has long passed and fortunately those classic cars weren't cut up too badly during the butt in the air phase.

Hillbillys like me have been dropping these short bed trucks for as long as I can remember. It's not quite as sensational as laying rocker, but it has been long lasting and popluar in this area.

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

Bed floors are now available new, so cutting one doesn't make one beyond the point of no return. The number of trucks that I've seen on this forum that probably should have been scrapped but instead were brought back, make me feel like there's nothing that can't be brought back to stock if the owner desires to.

I know what you mean about the ones that get hacked up and never finished...That is definitly a waste! However when one of these things get sold odds are the buyer is going to go ahead and finish it or rebuild it the way that they prefer it.

In the meantime I'm going to keep driving my dropped truck...

And my lifted truck...

And our extremely lowered completely ruined cut frame barf mobile!

I've seen it called Woodland green and dark green. The code is 505. It's a fleet color that I'm pretty sure you can still get on a new truck today.

Sorry if I offended anybody. I thought by typing "IMO" you all would understand that it is MY opinion. I thought the theme here is you can do what you want with your truck.

+1 on that. The shortie has the perfect stance for This model of two wheel drive truck. Low but not too low and with what appears to be a static drop

I appreciate the trucks no matter if they are stone stock, lifted 4x4"s or dropped two wheel drive rigs.
The only thing I don't want to see is one that is unsafe to drive and may be a hazard to me and mine and you and yours. Lately I've seen way too many hack jobs in all phases of vehicles. That was usually reserved for the redneck 4x4 guys up in this area who did extreme body and chassis lifts without much regard to safety but now it has spread to dropped rigs with modifications that don't show any consideration for safety.

As for liking or not liking certain styles I like them all but tend to not pay a lot of attention to the majority of stone stock rigs and even less attention to slammed rigs with grossly oversized wheels. It isn't that I don't like them but to me stock trucks are rather boring and don't hold my attention. The others just look a bit silly and unpractical but maybe I'm just way too old to appreciate that sort of thing.

If I happened to be at a show with someone else from here and I didn't like his truck you would never hear me comment on it. You just wouldn't find a photo in my album of it.

There are some things I don't get and never will. The fascination with being able to drop the rig to the ground and throw sparks while driving down the street. Plus pulling in and setting the rockers or running boards on the ground with the tires laying in like the front crossmember just broke on the way in. I just wonder how long it will be before we read on here about one of the members who had a bad wreck because the air bags or air lines blew at highway speeds and the truck dropped to the ground causing a massive wreck an killing himself or someone else. Sooner or later it will happen.

Do what you want but first stand back and ask yourself, "is this going to be as safe as I can make it to drive on the road under all conditions I might meet"?

Re: All these lowered trucks ??

If you really think about it..Raising or lowering..Both are pointless..When you lower, You tuck those nice 20" rims in your fender wells..You paid 2K to put em on your truck..But now you only show half your rims?..You pay thousands or more to get it on the ground..Your suspension components end up costing more than the truck itself..And for what?..To go throw sparks?..LOL..I hate how the whole thing works but its a sacrifice to get "The look" you want.

Raised is about the same..Jack it up..Big tires..big motor..To..???..Run through a mud pit?..Ive never owned a lifted truck..Nor do I want to..But I do enjoy the look..Just not SOME of the drivers..Yea, Your truck is taller than my truck..But save the "I can run your truck over like a speed-bump" to yourself..Its not really about that..Im sure some of you know all the phrases people have come up with..LOL..Im a firm believer that most are true

But its the classic group that really gets me..I understand the point of keeping a car/truck all orginal..But sometimes its not all about the money..So what if a fender is a repop..Your constructing your vehicle to look like it use to back in 19(Add year here)..Not to be rude, But I just find myself more interested in in a bagged patina rat rod than most OEM 100% original cars/trucks at shows and on the internet..Just because the simple fact of no individual personality to the vehicle..Sure, its stock..Nice investment..But whats unique?..Its not on a bill of sale or piece of paper..Just my opinion

Then this is the sonoma

Isn't that the most disgusting thing you ever saw...
