Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Does not sound like bashing to me. The topic of this thread was "most original 60-66 trucks in existance". oem4me was just pointing out what was not original. The term "original" has been watered down so much that people lose sight of what is correct and not correct. I will say it is very hard to find a 100% period correct vehicle today, many have deviations from the factory for "personal taste" reasons. Even the 12K light blue tu tone 66 longbed had the original western mirrors removed (notice the 2 holes on top of the vent post in door) and a chrome passenger car mirror was installed. This thread is the chance to get it right for reference reasons, historical reasons and for new members to learn how the factory put them together. The turquiose '66 C 10, and the black 65 C 10 are excellent examples on this thread on the way these trucks were built. The rally wheels (post 1973) deviation is very typical in this era.

I'm not convinced that a lot or all of these trucks really have that many low miles. It's very easy to stop the odometer from spining. I even know people who do it on new trucks to keep the milege low. One month conected one moth disconected. Just saying, you never know.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
All of them very cool, I bet they all still have that unique smell inside, something that goes away after a restoration. These trucks were mostly bought for work, which is why they all got beat up and rusted out.

Growing up, my Grandpa's 65 Chevy 4x4 had that smell. It also had the whine of the SM465, with the rattle of 4-speed gearshift knob. Of all the work I plan on doing to my 66, those are three things I will do my best to leave in my truck; it makes me think of Grandpa.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I got this 1961 GMC from a guy who says it has been in a barn for 15 years. It has factory power steering and only 45,000 miles on it...with a 305 big block V6 and 3 speed on the tree. All the rust you see is surface rust and thats about it! Yep the picture makes it look ruff and does it no justice......but its all there. I can't wait to get started on this old GMC.

Man those are great looking trucks, outstanding! Although I'm of the realm of modifying, I do love and respect the originality pieces as well, so classic and classy.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
OEM4ME your truck is truly a sight.... to be that mint and gently used without any kind of overhaul. WOW.
Is that a Delco battery? Also that looks like th standard wheel, but without a closer look I'm not sure I recognize your horn button, I thought it would normally have the orange bowtie on it?

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I am pretty sure this is a restored example, but it is very clean and as far as I can tell, alot of attention to factory correct detail.
at some point it was sold and the aluminium grille was replaced with a aftermarket chrome one, not sure if that was before or after these pics.

Body color on all that I've seen. I had read somewhere that there were deviations on detail stuff like that, depending on the assembly plant.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
JQ72 (Josh) owned this truck for a good while. He hangs out on the 67-72 side. I sure he can give more history on this truck. This is the cleanest example of an original truck of this year that I have seen in person.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I bought this 63 recently for parts, it too has a fawn firewall on a red truck. judging by the original grease pen marker I would say it came that way from the factory
