I have only seen it while driving by his house or when he was driving it. It looked nice from there though! I can certainly look it over if you want.
I can stop by Saturday morning, as you get plans finalized let me know. If you need it taken somewhere to make sure it's ready for the trip I know a great shop and can help get it there if needed.

Thanks for the offer its very much appreciated. Getting it checked would be great as a fresh oil change etc. would be great before an 850 mile trip. Can you PM me your phone number and let me know hen is good time to call you so we can talk about it.

Re: New Truck

....quick bump and a great truck G.!
That is a really great find....its harder and harder to find original, straight trucks in unmolested condition these days.
They always hold their value better over time than the rebuilds or mods....so good pick and good investment!!
All Good

I am sure SS Tim knows what type of wheel covers or hubcaps originally came with this truck. There is no reference on the SPID.

With there being no reference on the spid I'm sure it was built with white hub caps ( dog dish style ) and white 6 inch steel rims.

Re: New Truck

I believe the Monte Carlo / Highlander wheel covers are PA1. The lug nut style is P01.

Sean, any idea how long was the truck in Brookings? Curious if it was around when I was there awhile back. Got my degree in 2002.

Safe travels Greg, I second the video and pic request of some shots along the way!!

Re: New Truck

Sorry folks no video, although that is great idea. I'm back home now with the truck and I started another thread ( link below ) about the trip. We drove 900 miles in 16 hours so dint do much but drive, get gas and take coupe pics.

Jud I doubt the truck was in Brookings in 2002. It is originally from Kansas ( I have the Protecto-Plate and warranty card )and the original owner sold it to his son and the son sold to a man from Minnesota about 8 years ago and the fellow I bought the truck from bought it about 8 months ago from the Minnesotan. The original owners son was about 65 years old when he sold it to the Minnesotan 8 years ago which would have made him about 30 when the truck was new which means the original owner, his Dad, would have probably been in his 50's when he bought the truck new.

Re: New Truck

That's a nice one. Great colors! Is it an actual Highlander or a more rare Custom Deluxe with the plaid seat option? It doesn't have the standard Highlander features, such as below eyeline mirrors.

Those are the PA1 style premium wheelcovers also used on the Monte Carlo. They were optional on most 72 C10s and notably included on the Highlander Promo Package (YG6-8) equipped C10s.

Right, The P01 wheelcovers Greg wants have the five large lug caps emulating a demountable rim.

Correct white wheels and painted hub caps were "as built" in this case.

Those in the picture are the 73-76? version with the yellow trim paint vs the earlier blue 69-72.

They are in both cases Highlanders. A qualifying Custom Deluxe could be upgraded with "Highlander Plaid" trim. This added plaid cloth in custom color combinations and black carpet. A Highlander Plaid trim truck is generally identified by trim code alone on the SPID.

The "Highlander Promo Packages" bundled the same "Highlander Plaid" trim content with specific exterior options at a cost savings as Promo Package A (YG6). The successive B (YG7) and C (YG8) included the content of the YG6 and added bundled convenience options at a savings.

While the Promo Packages were intended to sell trucks the recession seems a more likely reason (like 71's "Inflation Fighter") than the often cited upcomming model change. Of note is the fact the Highlander Plaid trim was offered at the very beginning of the 72 model year and again in 73 on the new bodystyle.

As far as rarity, the Highlander Plaid trim trucks are comming out in greater numbers than I thought existed, making up an estimated 20-25% of the posted Highlander SPIDS. In time as more appear we may get a better overall picture through data reduction from all three Do you have a Plaid Pickup, Blazer or Suburban threads.

However in this case the Highlander Plaid trim and the Custom Two-Tone together add up to a rarely seen truck.

Re: New Truck

I guess what I'm saying is a Highlander is a Custom Deluxe with one of the Highlander promotion packages, all including the plaid seat/Parchment interior. This truck is a Custom Deluxe with the plaid seat option, not a Highlander promo. 20-25% of trucks with plaid seats being rarer than Highlanders. You could order all the items found on the Customs with Inflation Fighter package individually but that doesn't make it an Inflation Fighter
