Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
I am starting to like the idea of putting a big block in it!

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
Nice Impala, liking the 18/20" idea and really like the Big block idea. I put a 454/525hp in my 71 Gm 4x4 and sold the 350/330hp small block, wow what a difference, it just is so nice cruising now, the raw power is always there and sure made a big difference in a heavy truck, fuel mileage is even real close to what it was before, but the enjoyable factor just skyrocketed, just smile all day when I drive it now. Either way, beauty of a car, I just love all old cars and trucks, not new, no personality.

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
Yea, I considered a cowl induction hood...2" probably but cant bring myself to do it because I think the lines are too nice as they are. Also, it is an impala...not a camaro or chevelle, so I am not really trying to make a drag car out of it. I love driving it and want it to be functional as a daily.

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
Here are a few pictures of the body work progress. It is coming along nicely. The metal is being pulled straight, and repaired where someone previously used bondo. The driver's side will get a brand new quarter panel replacement in the next week or two. I will show pictures of that process as well. I want all the metal to be perfect, as I plan on keeping this baby for a very long time!

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
i like the big block idea but i would go 396 because internally balanced is better in my opinion

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
Internal balance is easier to find parts for, and to interchange.*
I would go internal. I've had both but I think it works better when you put the balance weights closer to the imbalance. Also it makes it easier if you every damage a flywheel. You don't have to worry about balance, just go neutral.

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
New pics are in! I am only a a few weeks away from paint time! Things are getting very exciting, however, looking at my car with the quarter panel off makes me feel like a have a kid in the hospital under the knife!
Enjoy! |

Great looking Impala nicke. I have to say the '65 models are my favorite too.

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
I doug these pictures up of when I put my American Racing torque thrust II's on my car. They were 17" all the way around. I really like how they looked, but I think I am ready for a little bigger, with a little less rubber. What do you think?

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
I agree. Although, I want the torques in a larger size...which I think will be the best of both worlds...

Yep, going to do 2" drop spindles, which should do the trick.

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
IMHO 17's look great but I'm an old guy I'd put moresidewall on the rear
CarCraft did a 65 years back and test fit a bunch of tires before virtual test fitting. And the car really looks best with fair amount of tire(sidewall). Again IMO (and CC) Your car is awesome, keep the pics coming!
