Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

Yeah I've seen that in there but didn't know how to take it off, so I can get a flat head screwdriver and then push it.I've tried it before and it didn't do anything but stay put.I'll try tomorrow hopefully something occurs soon.Could I try drilling that Rusted door handle bolt out?

So push the Rod looking thing in with one hand and in another get the flat head and do it like that

So its possible to just take the Door lock out and not the handle?

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

If you can get a drill bit to it, then yes- just be careful about angle, etc... the last thing you want to do is put an extra hole in the door.

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

I know nothing about impression keys. I would take a step back get some good solvent and let it work. I have had lots of things on mine that took time to work out. It took about 12 hours over 6 months to get one of the back drums to free up. To keep from messing up stuff that will cost good money to replace I would get a cheap universal ignition/start switch from Oriellys (about $15) and wire it up under the dash so you can start and stop it to get it to your neighbors, with the plastic gas can you shouldn't be driving it much. Then you can work on the switch and door handle (both will need to eventually removed for paint and body work) after the solvent has done its work. Warmer weather might even just be all it needs for things to expand a bit. The switch will not be a waste, I keep one around for those cars I have bought that do not have keys. you could even get a toggle switch and push button if you are not concerned about theft.

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

Thank you Orrie ill keep that in mind but I'll eventually have to get the handle off, im going to try what you said earlier about pushing the button in and turning the clip thing.Does the wires just pull off like a clip? or with a screw driver(I hope not) because it'll be a pain in the ass to be upside down doing it

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

Glad you got it out, take it with you to make sure the locksmith does the key right. On my 64 he keyed the truck according to the Code, when I tried it in the lock turned out he used the wrong blank and it would not got all the way in to work the bumpers. They can also make minor adjustments to allow for worn cylinder parts.

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

I thought you were saying you used vice grips to turn the bezel off??

Should reinstall the same way, it will only fit one way, the opening is slotted to match the raised part on the switch. Unless the PO used something else and drilled out the hole (like mine was). While you have it out, clean it up good, look at it carefully and see if the threads are messed up. You can get a replacement bezel if the switch threads are ok.

Also a good opportunity to tune up the wiring connectors if they are questionable.

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

Theres one that doesnt have an end to it and its just "wire" holding on to the connector. Can someone post a photo of the back and where it goes? theres 3 that are individual and don't know where they go..I am re-installing the ignition switch entirely and theres one that has a black clip attached to it where wire went thinking its that loose wire.. and also I can't get the door latch part to line up where the Door handle goes

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

I would have thought you would mark where the wires went or at least made a diagram. I guess lesson learned. In the future take your time and either mark every thing or draw a picture and make a diagram you'll have less DRAMA!!

There should be a accessory area on that switch.

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

Alright I put a new battery in it, and pushed the starter to see if anything would turn and nothing did..Could it be because I have the ignition switch un-plugged? I put a new voltage regulator in there so i hope its not that

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

Sounds like it. I think you need to have it hooked up to close the circuit. (Connect the loop)

Re: Taking the Door lock out 1959

Switch doesn't have to be grounded to dash to work. He has the wires all SCREWED up. Schrum, find out if you have the power coming into switch first. Then see if power goes out to starter. Accessories doesn't have to be hooked up yet either.

I screwed up the wires to the switch but not to the Regulator, I took a photo of the regulator and put it BACK the same way it was..
