Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
It would help if he does have the original parts. again, make sure to check out under the truck for rust and for a cut frame, check the vin number (and the vin on the frame (near-just behind the steering gearbox on the top of the frame rail I believe but will have to confirm with it being a 4wd). If it's truly rust free and a true swb 4x4 and mechanically sound it probably would be worth 5k +/-

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
Can you buy the truck and do what you want to do to it for the budget you have?
I still say its way too much money for what it is Do you have to have a shortbed? I used to think so but you might find a way nicer long bed for the same money. That doesn't need a tailgate. I got mine for 2500 with a blown tranny. I am going to be into it less than 5k for where you want to be. If you want a show truck I can see getting hung up on the swb but don't over pay. And again you can always take cash and try and lowball. Another thing is that thing has drum brakes up front you will want to upgrade that. Good luck! |

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
My guess is that the seller won't go any lower than $6K. He know's what he's got. If that was around when I was looking, I'd buy it in a heart beat.....After inspecting every inch and knowing what I'm in for. He hasn't had it listed that long to drop the price $1800. Offer your $5k, but be prepared to negoiate higher if you really want it. Take some extra eyes and ears with you to check it out. And take your time... That use to be my biggest problem went working a deal, I got in too big a hurry to close the deal and ended up paying more than I should. Also, be prepared to walk away if something just doesn't feel right. If all goes well you might be driving home a new truck Sunday. Good luck!

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
study the front and rear axles and transfer here online, so you know what you are looking at. You can live with the front drums for a while if it's stopping now. But know the disc conversion is an axles swap. Check the frame for not only cuts but for bent. Check the reveal around all doors and hood and open and shut several times.
Re the price: Goes like this. I paid $2,500 for mine. I have about $10,000 into it including the price and tires and rims. I feel the only thing I have to show for the $10,000 above the price is tires rims and front lift. So: Carb fuel pump radiator ignition steering box seat cover(even cheeped out and didn't get pad) All electrical for HVAC ect.... ect... ect.... It seems it's in decent shape, if so, get it and don't worry about plus or minus a thousand bucks. You'll spend money on that thing nickel and dime for sure well into the thousands. Don't keep receipts, Don't look back. Just enjoy driving a nice 4x4 that will get you lots of thumbs up on the road. You always find stuff on old vehicles after you buy. And you say, how did I miss that. But if you don't but it..... well then you won't have it and that sucks too. jeff I |

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
The doors have speakers mounted in them, that means holes. Devalued.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
well I did not purchase the truck, the guy backed out preety much. I hada time set up sunday morning to drive up there and he would not get into touch with me, would not send me an address and was overall sketchy. It was like trying to pull teeth to get him to answer anything. Told him I had cash in hand and nothing so I guess this isn't the truck for me :/. I hate trying to buy something I want from a f*cktard.
On a brighter note I found this truck about the same distance from me what you all think? I know it wont have power/disk brakes, idk about p/s but looks solid. I may try to look at this truck this week. Anyone have any opionions on the 283 enegine? will a 350 bolt up to that 4 speed? http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/cto/4379308978.html this guy is asking 7000 and I think that's kinda steep considering it doesn't have 350, disk/power brakes Any more input would be great, just trying to find me a good soild base for my truck |

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
cool. From the looks of the picture, the body mounts look rusty but the bushings look new.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
Sorry the deal fell through....I had that happen once with this guy in NC. I wanted his car but whenever we made a date for the buy, he'd disappear. I finallly wrote him off completely.
7K seems high. Especially for a truck missingg a front bumper! Keep looking....good trucks are out there. Now a 283 is my favorite V8 and if I was to put a V8 into my truck, it would be a 283. |

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
I like the 68. Needs some things finished, but at least you can see hidden spots fairly easy it looks like. I didn't see much under the hood of the other one that looked close to original... Guy was an obvious shyster.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
I hate it when a seller does crap like that! If he changed his mind about selling it, just say so...damn. Hopefully this new primer one will work out for you. Go test drive the snot out of it and make him a low ball offer.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
I couldnt agree with you all more. If you dont want to sell somethng just say so, not play games like a kid. Also i agree on the primer it hides things you dont want someone to see. Now i called this guy on the new truck i found some things out, He also just happened to go on vacation starting today all week so it will be next monday untill i go look at it and here are the concerns but seem like easy fixes
1. The tail lights/ brake lights wiring needs some work hence they do not work 2. The speedo doesnt work becouse the cable is missing? I assume the speed cable on these trucks is on the transfer case? 3. He doesnt have bumpers for it? makes me wonder if its original frame or originally 4x4? 4. Im very familier with the sbc 350 but not the 283, is this a reputable engine? Does this engine come factory in a 68 pros, cons 5. He said he thinks it has disk brakes in the front he doesnt know and its not power brakes? He also thinks this truck has power steering? He said he has owned truck for 10 years and it has a california title were he lived befor. You would think he would know more about your own truck lol My goals for this truck if i do purchase is chrome sport bumpers, 35x12.5 tires, slot factory wheels, power disk brakes up front, paint it chevy red mabey something like this ;p I apreciate all your comments, ill have a truck someday i promise |

But, it's small and won't take up too much room under the hood, and apparently was a strong performer for Chevrolet. Myself, I don't view a truck as some sort of hot rod, just need it for work (hauling stuff) so I don't require much in the horsepower department. One may run into trouble with a 283 if they have a high-geared rear end but I'm not really sure. My rear end is a 4.11 so a 250 is all I need. I would like to go to a 3.73 some time but I may need a 283 then myself! |

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
68 chevy monster truck $6500
http://peoria.craigslist.org/cto/4410449907.html I also found this truck , I'm gonna talk to the guy in the morning about, I know the vin starts with a c so it originally was 2wheel drive but if it's on a 67-72 swb frame that may be alright by me, I would eventually swap it for a nv4500 and different transfer case. I'm really wanting a short wheel base 4x4 and lately I been seeing a few. On this truck I noticed rust around the doors but for 6500 it's a good looking truck actually complete with bumpers |

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
That copper truck I'm not even bother to go look at, if it's anything like the last truck I looked at it will be junk that's why price is cheap, it's on a 73 blazer frame and was originally a 2wd with 6 banger so there's no telling how good the work is and he said there is rust bubbling under paint and the bed has a lot of cracks from the filler, so I'm gonna pass, but I will look at the 68 that's primer this Monday !

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??
The 283 is the same physical size as the 350 but it has a shorter stroke so not as much power down low but can rev higher if built right. I have one in my 66 and it's a great dependable truck.
I'd take a stock 283 over stock 350 anyway just because a 350 in a truck is like eating a bowl of plain Cheerios to me |
