Re: I'm new here
Welcome from western Illinois IMO, you dont need 4 bolt mains....I have been twistin the toad chit out of my 383 on 6 gears (2 bolt/stock bolts, arp rod bolts, good build & balance). 7200 is about the way the 1st couple gears go, as she revs fast in the lower gears. The cam in my sig says good power to around 5700....but she is still going at 6500. If you are scared, STUD the bottom(already mentioned), but you should be good to go to around 500 ponies on that 2 bolt block. Also as already mentioned, the splayed 4 bolt caps are the best deal on a sb chev. Best of luck..... L

Re: I'm new here
I have never seen a use for a 4 bolt main block - last I looked the rear main cap IE the oil pump mount always has two bolts even in a 4 bolt main motor.
They will, at times, have better performance parts such as forged cranks but other than that run the 2bolt block and smile all the way to the bank |

Re: I'm new here
WELCOME from sunny CALIFORNIA!! The 2 bolt main block will live very happily as long as you pay attention to details.I have built several 500 hp motors using 2 bolt mains.Just for added insurance, put in ARP main studs and have it line honed.

Re: I'm new here
Welcome from southern Mississippi. Like the others have mentioned the 2 bolt will probably serve you just fine unless you are building a crazy screamer machine.
