Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
Offer a bit lower and harp on the rust through. If you get it for say $4500, your money ahead. If not, its still a good by at $5300

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
One concern. How bad is this rust on the pillars?

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
I'll agree that $5,300 also sounds steep to me; rust in hood, fenders, rocker (doors look like they have something going on, too), broken windshield, small back window, greasy 283/TH350, etc. Not to say there isn't someone somewhere that might pay that, but I personally wouldn't.
Side note: Is it just me, or is the rear brake hose damn nearly rubbing the exhaust? |

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
A truck like that with all the add ons can easily bring twice that here in California, but the rust would be the deal killer. Then again I don't see that many with so much rust out this way. Shortbed fleetsides out this way are bringing a premium in recent years. I won't admit how much I had to spend for mine but it was rust free

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
Great feedback guys! Much appreciated! I think I'm gonna make a $4500 cash offer and see how he reacts. I think that's a fair offer considering all the upgrades and what not. Opinions?

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
check that pillar rust bud, before the offer. hoods can be replaced easily. not the pillar.

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
Not yet but hoping to have it by the end of the week. Going to drive it and give it a second look over today when I get off of work. With that said is there anything specific I should look for other than what's already been pointed out? Anything you guys might want to see pics of to have a better idea of what I'm getting into?

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
look at the space above the W/S inside and out. also that spot on the DS pillar for rust. those places are hard to get to to do repairs.

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
If you are not comfortable doing rust repair or have someone who can do that work for you, I would suggesting passing at almost any cost. These type of repairs are not as simple as swapping parts and bolting on accessories. Extra money spent on another truck that needs less major surgery is money well spent. Its been said before, whatever rust you can actually see can be 3x worse where you can't see it. That pillar rust would be a big red flag for me.
JMHO - Good luck.

I'd rather turn bolts than do body patches.

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
Pretend for a moment that it's just a frame with a bed on it.
In other words; consider if it didn't have a cab and front clip. Now how much would you pay for it? So offer him based off the likelihood that you're going to need to get a new cab and front clip.

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
Well, the BBW makes the truck worth more on the open market. I have and like both, but the BBW trucks bring more money; that's my point. I actually prefer the looks of the LWB trucks over the SWB trucks, but that doesn't mean that they aren't worth less.

Hey 66Sub, what's up neighbor, I just noticed your just down the street. You make a good point, everyone has certain styles and things they like in a truck, but that doesn't make it right or wrong. I would like to have one of every style and option, there is just something about a Chevy truck....any Chevy truck!!

A lot of upgrades helps, but the way I see it that is a $1000 truck with $2000-$2500 worth of upgrades. My price would be $3500 max. |

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
I wish I could find $1000 short beds around Oklahoma. I just built 3 patina short wides in the last year and got back on the road. I searched and searched and had to give $2500-$4500 then spend $3500- $5000 upgrades to get V-8 motors, charge to automatic, $1000 just for drop spindles and power disc brakes, tires and wheels, windshields, widow channel and regulators, 2 1/2" exhaust $350. Tags up to date. Not to mention the labor and fixing all lights, switches getting road worthy. That is not fixing any rust or paint. Just my opinion and experience lately.

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
This is now on eBay with a starting price of $7000.... Pictures don't show the rust in pillars....
Be interested to hear where this ends up. Also, the price of these trucks is increasing. When I started looking a year ago to now there has been a noticeable 20-30% rise in ASKING price. P. |

Re: What's this 65 SWB worth?
I went and finally drove it the other day, and was prepared to make an offer, after driving it around the block I believe my money may be better spent on a cheaper truck with me doing the upgrades my self.
So with that said... I'm going to ride down tomorrow morning to check out this 64 fleetside and hope for better results. This one has new fuel tank, pickup, sending unit, fuel pump, rebuilt carb, new coil and master cyl. This one is untouched (doesn't have the mods the other one does) but for the price I'm ok with that. |
