Have a 305 v6 in my 1969 c30...love it and can't kill it

The 305 v6 is a completely different engine than the OP was talking about but they are a great engine.

Since you brought this back to the top, I have a new 305 that was with a '72 C30 Dually I bought. I haven't used it since I put a GM crate 350 in the truck, but I would like to put it in something just to see how it would run.

Here is the spec sheet that came with it. Somebody put some serious cash in this thing.....

I have a 86 305 HO bored .30 over with a mild cam, HEI set up, tuned q jet. Great motor in my 67 c10. Hoping to FI Tech or possible 600 cfm Edelbrock carb, upgrade the ram horns to headers.

My question to you is this. What do you expect from this? Dependability? Power? It’s a small block Chevy. It’s going to be dependable. Chevy put them in full size trucks, blazers, Camaro’s, captrice’s etc... Power? It’s not terrible, but it’s not great either. It’s not going to run like a 350. I don’t need to tear up the drag strip in my truck, but I wouldn’t be satisfied with a 305 or as I’ve heard them called 3 slow 5. It all depends on what you’re looking for.

I'm currently going the opposite way right now. Pulling the 305 (ex 85 El Camino) out of my Burban. It used some oil and had low oil pressure so I'm sure it was a high miler. That being said it got the Burban around town pretty well but it was no jackrabbit off the line. The PO said he pulled his race car with it but I have my doubts about that. Too many hills around here. In my mind a stock manifold and a Q-jet off a 350 or smaller would be the best set up. The 305 isn't a bad way to go. In 1967 it would have been the second largest available.

So you have a 3/4 ton pickup with a 2 barrel carb that does an 11 second quarter? It is April Fool's Day!!

In another reply to my other post. It's your truck do as you deem necesaary. If you need a cruiser and not a drag truck it will be perfect.
