Here is my coat hanger wire solution. Also show how the mechanism works.

I'm in your camp. I repaired my cowl area and kept my fresh air vents functional as original.

I removed my cowl covers and repaired the metal, blasted, fabricated new and improved gutters and coated the entire inner plenum area with epoxy primer. Rust will never be a problem again.

Covers coated with epoxy on the inside and then welded back on:



After the welding, I sprayed the insides area of the covers with Eastwood's internal frame paint. Outside got blasted again before primer.

I've got the covers painted and on now. Sorry no photos of those yet.

Since I have fuel injection I don't need a choke control. Nor do I need a throttle control on the dash.
So I used those spaces for the fresh air vent controls. You can't use them in the stock location anyway with the Vintage Air. They tell you to do away with your fresh air vents in the instructions. HA! I wouldn't have a vehicle without them.

Nice work on the vents. You won't have to worry about them rusting again. I mounted my vent cables to the bottom of the a/c center vent case.

They are stock grilles.
I painted them with silver base (GM WA994L) and clear that I had left over from another job.

Pretty sure that the aren't reproduced.

Easy to come by though because a lot of people don't use them. They come up on ebay often.

Other times I've seen posts like yours and others chime in that have an extra pair.

Hello Tire Guy. Roger55 is right about some one chiming in. I have a set that I can send to you if you are interested. Here are a couple of pictures. They are yours for the postage. The set is out of my 55. I closed the cowl vent off and they are not going back on Clarance J. Let me know and we can work out the details.

Yep they are in very good shape. Glad they got a new home. Clarance J will have some of his old parts in three states now. New York, Texas, and Georgia. Glad that I could help. So now its time to go to the mail outlet.

Thanks Earl. This is just the opening salvo on doing the interior. I'll put them in with new kick plates and jury rig the cables until after the a/c install then I'll know where to run the cables properly.

Man! Even through restorationpartssource.com it's way cheaper than brothers. Think it was around $80 or so plus shipping. This place is $53. Gonna check and see if they're in stock
