Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
Well in the process of installing the spindles and upper ball joints, one of the lowers and an outer tie rod end spun on us. Then both sway bar end links broke. So you’re getting new upper and lower ball joints, drop spindles, new outer tie rod ends, and end links. Parts are on order. Meanwhile we’ll be working on getting the cab on and driveline set.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
The front suspension is all buttoned up. New upper/lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, sway bar end links, and 2" drop spindles installed. The pads and rotors looked good. Just waiting on the 2” spacers to arrive (fri) and then those torque thrust His go on the front.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
loving this build, especially the sit in a lawn chair and stare at it pic, I do that all the time
please forgive me but I am taking liberties to correct your side pics as they add value but are giving me vertigo (I use a free program called IrfanView to rotate them as the iPhone has a mind of its own sometimes) |

Thanks, not sure why they do that. The picture is oriented properly. When I upload them they rotate.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
Nice work as always, I've been rackin' my brain trying to figure out a way to use the clam shells without an adapter so just weld something to them, I like to keep it simple and join Part A to Part B and avoid Part C if I can help it
not saying I figured it out, I'm just saying I'm still having thoughts on it, ha ha keep going! loving your build |

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
Check out my 49 LS1 (in my sig) I used the clamshells in that (granted it was a Camaro stub, not an S10). I’ve just found that it’s less work to start from scratch!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
They have gotten the motor all mocked up. Next step is to build motor mounts, then pull the cab, build the trans crossmember, fuel system, exhaust, and initial start up!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
So then we start modifying the transmission crossmember. We begin by cutting off the last 6” on each end. Then bolt the center section back on to the transmission.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
Then you hold the ends under the center section in approximately the portion they will be in bolted down, Mark the overlap and cut. Now remove the crossmember and weld the ends on.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
The passenger side is easy, just duplicate the factory bolt holes. On the driver’s side you’ll need to create a shelf using a piece of 1x1x11ga or even some 11ga flat steel.
