Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
Very cool truck! If you take the camper off, I'd just put a tarp over it and keep it around to use every so often or so. Cool truck, and nice score!

X2. The Bed wood looks to be in great shape. Awesome truck! Maybe you could put a tonneau cover on it if you decided not to keep the camper shell.

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
Have you ever seen pictures of the Ochre and White '71 Custom Camper I had? I was just looking for another truck. I had a '71 K/20 with a utility body for work and wanted a C/20 for an alternate work truck. I see this add for one with a camper on it. Just a small grainy b&w newsprint picture. I figure I'll pull the camper. I go look at it and,MAN!,that thing was clean. And for the money it was a deal for the truck and the camper was free. I knew right there we had us a new family camper. I removed it and got a tonneau cover made to protect the wood bed floor. I didn't work out of it,but used it for chores. I just put the camper on for camping trips and over the winter to save space when the truck sat.
Here are a couple GM trucks with Pullmans:

No i havnt seen it. Post some up! How heavy is the camper? It looks real heavy. How hard is it to take on and off? I think that is gonna be the determining factor. We might go camping one time this year. The problem is i have 2 kids and 2 dogs. It would suck taking 2 cars on a road trip. I also have a 88 R20 Burban with a HD tow package. Im working on the motor now and it will be back up and runnig within a few weeks. Im leaning twords taking it off. I know its sad, but i just need a truck. |

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
I agree! The question is: Will the original rims and hubcaps stay, or will they dissappear like on most all the other '68 3/4 tons on this forum?

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
Very cool find. Do you have any pictures of the glove box option list?
It looks pretty correct for a 68 CST. The carpet is missing. What color are the door panels? They look either grey or really dirty parchment. There is some chance it's a 50th anniversary model. We'd have to see the seat and option list to tell for sure.

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
My '71 is shown in the Custom Camper thread that is current. It's not a Pullman camper, though. It's not just members of this forum who change out original wheels and tires in old oddball sizes or split rim to the common 16" bead seal type. It's anyone anywhere who actually drives a 3/4t that needs to be serviceable. It's neat to keep original optional wheel/tire sets around for display at shows, since many like myself, appreciate these trucks in their original state. It looks to me like your truck is Saddle with Fawn interior.

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
I keep coming back to this thread to look at that camper. We want to build a truck box trailer to bring with us to Bonneville. Use it to haul our pit bikes, BBQ, etc etc. We have been kicking around what to do for a top. Something that was kind of unique (for fun) and not just a canopy top.
Now I'm going to have to start searching for one of these. This it twice this week Ive run across something on this board I had never seen before ... Very cool stuff!

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
Ok i took a few more pics. The tires are old, but still good. Super Transport 7.50-17 load range D. I added a pic of the 3 tank switch. It also has a small switch under the dash for the senders. And yes all 3 work :/ And the front trim. Looks like lightning hit the front. The trim is melted in a 1 spot!
It has the original Owners manual. With some notes in the oprerating record. First log 4/30/68 1,108 miles "Install center seat belt" (Ill have to look for that under the seat) Last log was 2/3/72 with 36,000 miles on it. "Install unused spare on right rear" and "pull recap on left rear" |

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
That would be cool. My problem is ive been laid off over 2 years. I make my money working on cars, buying/selling, bartering. I have a 26x11' garage, decent driveway i can fit 5 in it, but one car is by the street turned sidways. And i have to do most of my work in the driveway because i hord to much car sh*t I have the 68, my 65 cutlass, 88 burban r20, my old ladys chrysler, and i need a spot to work on junk. Right now that spot is filled with a 67 Delta im parting out. I just dont have room to store it. But you never know its still on the truck and if you really liked it maybe a local has some room to store it over the winter. I dont like the idea of it sitting outside for storage. The inside is all wood.

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
First, I blame GM for not having 16" 8 lug 1 piece rims during the 60's, Ford and Dodge had them. Second, I would blame the aftermarket for not making a standard 8 lug 16" 1 piece wheel with clips. I predict those muli piece 17" wheels will disappear on the '68 CST shortly. However if your a purist, and want your '68 to still look like a '68, GM did offer plenty of 1 piece rims in 1968 as seen below. 16.5 , 17.5 and 19.5(all 3 sizes were clip type in 1968) that are serviceable anywhere. If keeping the original authenticity is important, the hunt for these rims are worth it and tires can be ordered for all three of these sizes at any truck tire dealer. If not, you'll soon discover the appearance of your vehicle will be drastically altered with the incorrect wheel is installed and you soon will be in the "all original except the wheels club".

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
So the 17s i have are a 2 pc with a tube? No Sh*t! Thats odd. At first i thought someone took the wheels off a old 2 ton truck and put them on. To be honest i like them! So whats the probelm with them?

Re: New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper
The 17" wheels are your truck are the 3 piece design. The 16" was the improved 2 piece design. Its not really odd, your truck just has the optional heavy duty 17" multi piece wheels for higher capactiy 17" tires. Whats odd is you found a truck with them still on. Most 3/4 tons of your vintage had them removed by new owners, because car tire dealers won't touch them. Also, most people don't like paying extra for tubes, liners and taking their vehicle to a commercial truck tire dealer that charge extra on labor to work on these rims. These rims require expierenced wheel people to work on them or tragic results could occur if not assembled correctly.
