Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Well, after more delays with CPP, I canceled my order and went to Wes at Classic Heartbeat for the Super trac bar setup. It might be in tomorrow, and if so I will be pay him a visit, and be heading up to get some work done. In addition to that I will take along some calipers for the front and tabs for the rear axle to mount both the brake lines and shocks. That should get me closer to being able to put the tub back on and get the Blazer moved to my shop where it will all come back apart and the true restoration will begin.
I have also been researching the 50th Anniversary trucks, looking for the details on both the interior and exterior items to finalize my plans. If anyone has good source information on the 50th trucks, feel free to respond. Even if I have it, I think it would be good to get it listed in the build thread. Thanks, Drew

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
I have the same idea for my Blazer too. But I am probably a couple of years from getting started on it. Make sure you swap out the section of the firewall so that you can put the hand-operated parking brake assembly from the 67-68's and see if you can find a instrument bezel with the lights and wipers switches both on the left hand side. It's the little details that will make it all that much cooler.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
smbrouss70 -
I was thinking of that for sure. Since I am fabricating most of the rear parking brake cable arrangement, it sure makes sense for the overall theme. As for the dash, I have a 67-68 Tach dash already, and contemplating modifying it to a Tach / Vac Cluster. That of course is a long way off, but it's on my list. Hart_Rod - I have been going back and forth on the seating. The Blazer was originally a utility bucket one, and I traded those for sport buckets. Still I love the look of that Buddy Bucket you have.. I have to add that picture to my wish list and ponder that one some more. Where did you have your seat done at? or did you do that yourself - cause it is very nice indeed. I did get my hands on an original dash pad and a set of visors from a 50th thanks to Livrat.. I will post pictures of them as soon as I take some. One other area I keep bouncing back and forth on it the use of 67 or 68 front fenders. I love the 67's, but in reality 68 would be the correct choice.. Anybody have some feedback on that?

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Cool, I thought stllookn had one I saw in another post, guess it was the same one. Since he is in my neck of the woods, maybe I'll get a look at it first hand sometime. As for the 68 fender, I think your right, it's the right way to go.
Thanks, Drew

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Yeah, you definately need to keep the sidemarkers to make it look right.
One other thing that I was thinking would be cool was running some 20" Centerline smoothies, painting/powder coating the centers white leaving the rim polished and figuring out a way to mount some factory 68 dog dish hubcaps. I hadn't quite figured out how, but I do have the hubcaps.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
I finally found a picture of a restored 50th. This truck belongs to Rick Parsons, and the article is in Truck Builder Magazine http://truckbuildermagazine.com/ME2/...49EDD04DB2C706
Pretty Damn nice ride! This helps me to visualize mine.. I am going to attempt doing a Photoshop onto a Blazer with the color scheme.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
Well, more progress today. Actually, Livrat has made progress this week already. He was able to finish the mock up on both the rear bag brackets and the C-notches. In addition, on went the upper shock mounts (using the 4x4 shock mounts moved back to achieve a better angle on the shock.
Here is where it was at today before we got started Also installed were the transmission cross member, the Automatic transmission linkage bracket, and the motor mount towers. So we began to work on the brakes, installing the rear caliper brackets, calipers and assessing what to do about brake lines. The rear hoses are actually 72 Chevy 4x4 front brake hoses. [/IMG] I put the front calipers on, but forgot to get new hoses.. Since the calipers are all the same on these trucks and Blazers from 71 to 78, I am using a set from my 77 2wd Blazer. Next, in went the gas tank. We also discussed the remaining welds that need finishing. Gussets for the bag brackets C-Notch Lower shock mounts Next it was time to get the tub back on. (Well at least temporarily for the trip to my shop so I can take it all apart again!)

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer
And Here it is!!
Taking a look at this next shot reminded me to mention something. My stock front shocks are to long! They bottomed out, and are holding up the front end.. They gotta go; So, after a few hours of work, we selected the front sheet metal.. I decided to go with 68 fenders after all. Next steps are to get the front end on, and load it up for the trip down to my shop. The project moves into phase two, the restoration. It will all come back apart for the restoration.. I am sure things will slow down a bit for awhile, while I assemble parts and refurbish others. Moe to come for sure. Drew
