What model year?

I just posted factory documentation for 1981 that shows is was not. Combined with first hand experience makes me pretty sure.

1978 K5 blazer with the cold climate package and custom deluxe trim. My father picked up the K5 Blazer new from the dealership.

So with the information included in your next post, you mean to say that the hood insulation was put on a Custom Deluxe as part of the Cold Climate Package.

I only know about the Blazer which my father picked up new in 1978 and that I have today. I know that this blazer with the custom deluxe trim and cold climate package had the hood insulation when he picked it up from the dealer.

Also with the cold climate package it came with a headliner even though it did not have Cheyenne trim.

Understood; and agree.

Similarly, it was also included as part of the Diesel package (on Suburban or pickup).

But not as part of the Custom Deluxe trim level.

Special insulation was included on the following optional packages...
K81 COLD CLIMATE PACKAGE
B3J DIESEL EQUIPMENT PACKAGE

That does not mean that Custom Deluxe or mid trim level trucks came with it when they were ordered without the K81 or B3J option packages.

Only the YE9 trim level {Chevy Cheyenne Super/GMC Sierra Grande & Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra Classic} included the special insulation.

Insulation was not part of the Base, Z62, or Z84 trim level packages. If you look at the SPID or build sheets on trucks with the lower trims and hood insulation you'll likely find K81 or B3J.
