Re: to drive? or not to drive?

[QUOTE=67ChevyRedneck;1831479]. . .about 7 or 8 years ago my grandpa's neighbor's barn was struck by lightning and burned to the ground... no big deal right? Inside of the barn was a FULLY PROFESSIONALLY RESTORED 1957 Ford Crown Victoria and a 1964 Chevrolet Impala bubble top. Nothing is guaranteed safe anywhere. [QUOTE]

That is a good point - and alot of other good points mentioned above. I'm eager to see pics, but have to agree with the majority that you should drive it to share it's beauty with others and to get the joy that comes with driving a fine truck.

A buddy of mine has a Plymouth Road Runner Superbird with about 53,000 original miles - it just sits in a garage - hasn't even been started in over 3 years. That beautiful rear wing hasn't seen the sun in years. We went to a car show together last year and he drooled over all the beautiful cars there and I made a point to him that he really needs to get his Superbird out for others to enjoy - no one is getting any enjoyment out of it sitting in a garage, not even him.

Anything can happen to your vehicle, heck you could keel over and die tomorrow - be a shame not to enjoy your truck - doesn't mean you have to drive it weekly, but at least get it out once or twice a month and enjoy it!

Re: to drive? or not to drive?

DRIVE IT, even if its only on Sunday. I have the same issue here with my 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T, wife says drive it but I want to keep the miles low and keep the car as clean as possible (especially here in HI). I ride my bike as much as possible. DRIVE IT

Re: to drive? or not to drive?

I just spent a year and a half, around 40 hrs a week, and around 10k rebuilding a 67.Now my 16 year old boy drives it to school every day. Whenever I get my hands on it I dog the crap out of it because if he wrecks it I want to have some fun with it while I can....

Re: to drive? or not to drive?

DRIVE IT!!! I have a lot time, money, and sweat in my truck, but I drive the snot out of it, too!! I can't wait until weekends get here, so I end up driving to the local SONIC or HOOTERS during the week with my 7 year old son! He loves it. I agree with others. Insure the thing and drive the thing!!!

Super looking nice clean 4X4 and a great resto job.. I am curious as to why you wouldn't put chrome bumpers front and rear when you did the resto ?

Not to hijack......truck is bone stock with the exception of wheels/tires and the aluminum intake on the motor.....just the way it came from GM (back bumper would have been painted Silver).....thats the reason for no chrome....

Thanks Dave but do not throw rocks at yours. I just want to see pics. Are you close to Scottsdale? I am going to be down there for Thanksgiving and the Goodguys show is the weekend before, so I am trying to get there for the show and if I find an enclosed trailer to use I want to bring my truck down.

Re: to drive? or not to drive?

Shoot, I drive mine everyday! I love racing out on the gravel roads, playing "Dukes of Hazzard". It's not that I don't care, I'm VERY careful. Driving is serious business. At the same time though, my truck and I won't last forever (this is coming from a 17 year old). Heck, I should be even more worried than you considering that she may have a few "controversial" details, if you know what I mean.

Re: to drive? or not to drive?

Here's a link with one pic of it I think. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...Cheyenne+super I wouldn't be cruising it down muddy roads but I would have to drive it from time to time. My wife drives our C/10 to work once or twice a week. My K/10 doesn't get driven a lot, but the less I drive it the more I enjoy it when I do get in it!

Yote - Drive it! The pleasure you get driving it will be worth more than the depeciation caused by a of a few chips in the paint. I try to drive my 48 a couple of times a week. I've put over 11K on in it in the last 3 years. Sure it's got chips, but nothing that can't be fixed if I ever redo it.

I agree with your wife, as well as with most of the other replies here. I have seen some incredibly rare and priceless cars being driven in special events on public highways. I think it's fantastic that their owners are enjoying their museum pieces as they were intended, rather than locking them away.

Re: to drive? or not to drive?

I gave the one in my avatar to my wife before it was finished. I have a ton of money in it. It was always intended for a DD. On it's maiden voyage, a gravel truck pulled out from a side road going the opposite direction and rained gravel all over it. My wife just said "oh well, it's a daily driver". It has been hailed on, snowed on and rained on in the 3 weeks we have been driving it. It have 2,700 miles and climbing each day. If you can't enjoy driving them, why have them.

DRIVE IT!
Maybe not everyday, but enjoy what you have. I put about 3500 miles on my 'burb this summer, but unfortunately the weather has turned bad and I will most likely pull the driving insurance 'til spring.

Re: to drive? or not to drive?

dave you only life once man. And even though your truck sounds like it belongs in a museam it is not in one. I also am very protective of my truck. however it did get keyed a while back but i still show it with the key mark down the side. i could get it repainted but what is the point it is just gonna get chipped. i will eventually but i enjoy driving it. even if i had a 100 mile original i would drive it because that is what it was ment for and i would want to enjoy it. Also vehicals that sit don't hold up as well. they are ment to be driven and start to develope problems when sitting... thats not to say driving doees not cause its great share of problems. Also i would rather let others enjoy my truck by taking it to shows and letting my buddys uncals and father drive mine. With me in the truck!! Like i said you only live once and it is nice to enjoy it. so maybe don't drive it to work but at least get it out on the weekend. Mine has been sitting in the gardge for 8 weeks now and is collecting dust cause i am in school....... I do like driving it but i also like to keep it nice so it goes away for the salty months.

My .02 Cents !!

These trucks, like any vehicle, were built to be utilized and driven. As has already been stated at 35 years old our trucks are unique and there are not 2 alike.. I probably paid too much for mine when I bought it but after looking at rust buckets and high dollar trucks that were built to someone elses specs, mine fit the bill for me. Our winters are very harsh so my truck is mothballed in a heated garage from late September to mid April then driven daily for the summer months. Because of the color my truck gets lots of comments from people and I like that..

I say Drive Your Truck and enjoy it!!!!!

Re: to drive? or not to drive?

I always tell my wife that I would rather ruin one on the road then ruin it sitting in the driveway. I drove our K10 to Myrtle Beach a few years back (10 hours in the rain). I also drove it to the Biltmore for a weekend a couple years ago (about a 5 hr trip). And my wife drives the C10 to work about once a week. I haven't decided which one of these I will be driving to LUV's cookout this weekend (thinking it's about 3.5-4 hours away).

Drive it because if you ain't you could have just took a picture of it and saved yourself a whole bunch of money by just looking at the picture every day.
