Re: butterfly doors on our trucks anybody?
Those doors are very played out; however if you ever figured out the trick to koenigsegg's door-hinge, then you might be a hit at the show; check out this video:

Re: butterfly doors on our trucks anybody?
go to google, type in koenigsegg doors, and it should show you a TopGear video; it shows you the doors at about 1:20.

Do a "lambo" tailgate.
Can't say that I have ever seen one. |

Re: butterfly doors on our trucks anybody?
If you take a trip back into the late 80s and thru the 90's...Lowriders were 'tilting' everything. They were cutting gates in half, and tilting or "lamboing" then. The same for hoods, trunks, doors, etc.
I remember making a Samurai gate open like a tailgate...that was cool. Might as well, hinge the cab and lift that off the frame too.... (Anyone see the 4-5-6 on Speed's "Livin the Low Life" ??)

Re: butterfly doors on our trucks anybody?
I've got a '63 carryall(suburban). I was wondering ...how do i make the doors slide , like side doors on van??
I've had it for over 20 years now, paid $300.00 drove it home, since then installed 350-350, p/s-p/b. tired of family ripping up seats when they get into back by stepping on them!!! |

Re: butterfly doors on our trucks anybody?
You'd just have to install a simple hinge; it wouldn't have to slide, necessarily. I guess, the best way to explain it is a "Z" hinge..

Re: butterfly doors on our trucks anybody?
This is the movement of the doors created by the z-hinge, I have to draw in the hinge so you guys know what I am trying to explain.

Re: butterfly doors on our trucks anybody?
here is what I have interpreted.....Susan, correct me if I'm wrong....and my drawing is crude and I can't do that cool animating thing
so the top straight illustration would be the door closed, the blue part would be attached to the the door in the front on the inside and the red part would be attached to the body inside behind the door...the orange would be the pivots, you would need 2 hinges per door and some kind of locaters at the front and a latch at the rear the black piece would be much longer than the red and blue....

Re: butterfly doors on our trucks anybody?
I have no plans on doing specialised hinges for my vehicle; or my bf's vehicle; however - i will finish the drawing.
Edit - that is correct, Joe; you figured it out I was thinking having a sliding-attachment to the black-piece, so it is smaller when you move the door.
