Yeah, sounds like the best bet. I would say the water in the oil probably killed a main or rod bearing. Sometimes they start sounding like a tick from the beginning and develops into a knock. Or sometimes you get a knock right away. And it normally gets louder the warmer the engine gets.

Build the other one up. Good luck with it. I do recommend pulling the lifter out of the one you are putting together, soak them in oil and take one of the push rods after they sit a while and pump them up in the oil. Make sure you label which one goes where. I do this with any engine I get that has been sitting for a long time. Some people just unhook the ignition wire on the distributor and crank them over a couple of times. But usually, I am just resealing a motor or something when I do this.

An old Ford trick which works really well for ticking lifters, is to pour a cup full of ATF into the oil.Try it.
