Re: Daves new 68 chevy swb
I know it doesn't look like it but I'm three years into this build. I've assembled this truck a few dozen times to make sure it's just the way I want it. So far so good. As soon as I finish filing a hundred plus holes it will be painted or powder coated, haven't decided yet. Then it goes back together one last time hopefully.

Re: Daves new 68 chevy swb
Well I welded up a whole mess of unneeded factory holes in the frame and have since done a final mockup and sent it all to powdercoat. It is now incredibly boring in my garage. Once it all comes back this should escalate relatively quickly.

Very Nice Build! Just can't imagine taking all that air ride line apart after such a nice routing job.

Re: Daves new 68 chevy swb
Looking for advice on a builders exhaust kit. Something I can cut and make fit. Also does anyone know if I can run the larger diameter brake booster without interference with the Porterbuilt goodies? I will also be looking for info on a pair of bedsides and possibly door. Any suggestions?

Re: Daves new 68 chevy swb
I had them machined down because I'm utilizing a disc brake with the 3" rotor bore. And as an added benefit. I can rotate tires without an issue. Does anyone know if the 68 ball joint taper is smaller than 72? My supposed 72 spindles don't fit the 72 ball joint.

Re: Daves new 68 chevy swb
63-70 balljoints are different from 71-72 and 73-87.
The easiest way to determine your spindle "year" is to identify the upper balljoint or outer tie rod. Take your spindle to your local auto parts store and find out. I like using the tie rod hole as reference. The 63-70 outer tie rod is definitely a smaller diameter than the 71-72 and the 73-87 version. All three are different sizes.

Re: Daves new 68 chevy swb
Lolife, I did just that. It appears as the 72 ball joint from parts house has the same taper as my spindle as it's tight and a good fit. I think the taper could just be deeper. If I don't use a washer it all works just fine.

Re: Daves new 68 chevy swb
It's time for more updates on this bad boy. Everything is looking good.
Classic parts is here in Riverside MO. It may be worth your drive to pickup new bedsides and any other large parts there to save on shipping. |
