Re: Project Whiskey Dent (Take Two..)

thanks. im hoping next time i post updates it the engine and tranny will be on the frame and it will be on some tires and wheels instead of jack stands. in all honesty i shouldent have bought the 6.0l but i was really wanting a gen III engine and i just couldent pass the deal up. i was just wondering cause the last few times i posted here no one replied.
thanks,
John

Nice work John. That cab doesn't look too bad at all. That was a good deal on the 6.0 combo.

I've been kinda spotty on posting latley too. Too much happening, too little time to do it all. Anyway, keep it up and post your progress.

Re: Project Whiskey Dent (Take Two..)

i am still looking for some headers that fit. i have a set that were on the engine when i got it but they are nowhere near fitting. if you know which ones fit or where i can get some please let me know. i have had several people ask me why im not doing a full restore or at least a nicer restore than what im doing while its all apart. well theres several reasons. main reason being money. also i really just want to drive it for now. my plan is in a few years, pull it back apart, get everything sand blasted and the frame and suspension parts powder coated like it should be. add a 4 link and a mustang II front. fix the rust properly and paint it. i will still have a flatbed on it, im thinking tubbed.. also engine wise it will get a full rebuild far from stock (i need to do some research on gen III engine mods), converted to carb, probably turbo charged, with a six speed. all together it will be at least 10 grand and i just dont have the budget right now. for now im just aching to drive it, my friend has been driving his for a while now and im jealous. im stuck driving a caddy... lol this weekend im going to get the frame rolling on its own (no jack stands), get the engine and tranny bolted in, and work on the brakes. ill post pics then.
thanks,
John

Re: Project Whiskey Dent (Take Two..)

Looks great, your cab is in very good shape, about the same as mine. I am thinking about a 6.0L in mine eventually, but carbed with the HOT cam. Truth be told I already scored a 5.3L with the carb setup w/ carb, MSD, Z06 cam, brackets and accessories, conversion mounts, coils, belts, starter and all for 600.00. I could literally install it right now and run it, but I want to save the 5.3L as a backup for my '99 Z71 and I like the extra torque the 6.0L makes.

BTW, could you please elaborate on the heater. I would love to get mine under the dash and clear up some engine bay room.

Re: Project Whiskey Dent (Take Two..)

well the under dash heater setup has the core and the blower motor bolted under the dash. the only thing thats coming through the firewall is the two heater hose connectors. i like it because i dont like the look of that big black box under the hood. ive never seen the setup for sale anywhere but if you want one, i see your in keller. plan a trip to abilene and go to fm600 wrecking, they had about 5 different 60-66 trucks with this setup intact. although they might not now that im posting it here. lol

Re: Project Whiskey Dent (Take Two..)

The crossmember that you have looks like one out of a Camaro. Does it have some drop to it where the mount goes or is it level? (I don't recall fo sure, but I was thinking it did drop some.) The reason I ask is the stock style x-member is level with the bottom of the frame (maybe even "slightly" higher than the frame). Dependant upon your x-member, the motor "should" level up pretty well once you get a tranny mount installed.

On the PS lines, just slightly notch the frame for clearance and you're good to go!

Nice score on the parts too!!

Re: Project Whiskey Dent (Take Two..)

LQ4

The Vortec 6000, or LQ4, is a V8 truck engine. It is a bored version of the Vortec 5300. Displacement is 6.0 L (≈366 cu in) from 101.6 mm bore and 92 mm stroke. It is an iron/aluminum (2000 model year engines had cast iron heads) design and produces 300 horsepower (220 kW) to 325 horsepower (242 kW) and 360 lb·ft (488 N·m) to 370 lb·ft (502 N·m). LQ4s are built in Romulus, Michigan and Silao, Mexico.

thats what wiki says. but when i remove cats, egr, evap, all emissions, add headers and a flashed computer i think it will be closer to 375-400hp. just my guess though.

Re: Project Whiskey Dent (Take Two..)

nvm about the o2 sensor plug. i forgot i still had my username and pass for Mitchell on demand from my old job. i just compared the plug wires from the 02 sensor wiring i had from a 2003 1500 and cut the plug and matched them with my 01 wiring. also i found out it was the right plug (i hope) by looking at the one on my buddies 01 1500 5.3l. if its not the right plug ill just use an 02 sensor for a 01 silvy with a 5.3l instead of a 6.0l.

I still need alot of parts to get her finished. heres the list i have so far. im sure theres stuff i forgot.

replace diff or just gears, currently 2.73 which wont work.
brakes, calipers, rotors, bearings
get power steering lines made because i have an 01 pump with a 86 box.
radiator
engine oil cooler
brake lines
gauges
drive shaft cut or new made
bucket seats
5-lug wheels
tires
shocks
cab mount bushings
headers that fit
fuel line
gas tank and high pressure fuel pump
computer reflashed
02 sensors
egr block off plate (ill probably make one)
make my flat bed
80's column preferably with the cruise buttons on the blinker switch
master cylinder and booster

also i realized im going to need lower control arms. the ones i have had a bucket welded on the bottom to lower it and the buckets hit the ground when i barely jump on the frame with the engine in.

so i have a long expensive road ahead of me. lol
