Now thats some fun work.
Funny, but my rear cylinder had the same problem, i had to trim it off to make it fit.

If I did all that for you it would have cost about $200 plus materials. That would NOT have included spic-n-span parts or new paint. You were only about 30 min. worth of work to go ahead and change the pinion seal while you were in there. Just have to be careful not to overtighten the nut when you put it back together.

hmmmm - I haven't seen a good write up on that one so I didn't go for it (I need pictures with fingers pointing at stuff and step by step
 ) - honestly didn't think about it at the time either - it's not leaking so......

Nice write up. I had the same problem w/a wheel cylinder from China. Bought mine from Napa and one was made in the USA and one was made in China. The USA one went right in no problems. The China made one was cast wrong (like yours.) I took it back and got another USA one (they had more in by then) and it went in no hassle.

I know this is an old thread..but I am in the middle of the same thing on my '75 12 bolt. I however, did drop the smal spider gears when I rotated the driveshaft to remove the pin. Any special tricks to getting everything back in...it looks like I just need to work them back in as I re-insert the shaft. Thoughts? Waiting for by backing plates (and drums) to come back from the powdercoater before I can re-install the axles...just trying to prepare myself.

Putting the spider gears in seems daunting till you figure it out. Basically, you have to hold the front and rear gears in place and they have to be directly opposite of each other. Then roll them in. My words don't convey it, but once you get under there and try to install them it will clear up some. Just remember they have to be directly across from each other and both installed at the same time. If you don't have them directly across from each other, the pin hole will never line up.
But once you figure it out the first time, you'll never need more than 10 seconds to install them in the future.
