Re: How to ruin a near mint 85 gmc

Had a decent weather day so I broke out the buffer and spent a few hours wearing down paint one day it will be thin enough to clear coat but for now it has a good wax shine.

It looks real nice. I love the factory 2 tone with the stance/wheel combo. Nice job!

Re: How to ruin a near mint 85 gmc

Well I decided to go ahead and pull my temporary exhaust and headers off. Ordered in some 2 inch primary hooker super comps and 3 inch x pipe kit. Headers were snug fit and had to put the mufflers before the x since they wouldn't fit anywhere else. Just have to finish up welding and it will be done.

Re: How to ruin a near mint 85 gmc

After I finished my exhaust in april I noticed my engine tick was still there. I had just been dealing with the noise and couldn't say there was any issue with power after beating a nasty built early bronco in a drag race. Then a few days later I decided to pull my valve covers and I had #8 rocker cut out the top of the valve spring due to bad threads on rocker stud.

Machine shop said its cheaper to just buy a new 781 head and have it done. So I figure if I'm replacing I am going with aluminum heads with big valves.

Got most of it back together I got dart adjustable guide plate at recommendation of head builder Don't get them unless fixed plates hold your rockers off center. They suck to set up and had clearance issues on my heads but the 4 locations I used them are 100% centered.

Re: How to ruin a near mint 85 gmc

The 700 has been great but had someone back out of buying a 4l80e built for 1000hp + that I already had built so went ahead and ordered a tci ez tcu controller and put it in my truck. Got everything finished up last night and I can say anyone thinking about going with an 80 won't be disappointed. The controller is easy to setup and even easier to tune to person preferences.

Re: How to ruin a near mint 85 gmc

Been a while but now I'm back at it. The 4l80e a ez-tcu are awesome love the easy adjustents. Put a new holley double pumper on it, new front sway bar bushings and made a s10 blazer rear swaybar work on it too. Should have more updates shortly since I got a 30lb box from Calvert racing this evening.

Looking good, do you have any specifics on the rear sway bar? That seems like a nice set up.

Re: How to ruin a near mint 85 gmc

The sway bar is out of a 98 s10 blazer factory rear just had to open up the clamp mounts for the size of my 12 blots axle tubes.

It is a transmission cooler in the rear didn't have much room up front so I used a f350 cooler I had sitting around . Keeps my trans plenty cool.

No rubbing issues. Don't remember the specs I searched here and got the setup everyone on here is running. Think 5.25 or 5.5

Was the caltrac bars easy to install? I've been thinking about them for some time.

They are easy as long as you have a decent ball joint press or air hammer.
