Zumo - that animated pic is great .. you just need to add some tire marks on the ground after the truck backs out of the picture ...

.... and Welcome to the board from NY

engine

laxplaya37,
I'm assuming you'd want to build a stroker (383)?
That's kinda of a low budget to build an engine with that much HP output. Good set of parts alone would probably run you that much (heads, crank, rods, pistons, cam, intake, carb, etc.) This would not include the machine shop work (unless you'll do it yourself).
1. Thermally Cleaned/Shotblasted (COMPLETELY CLEANED)
2. Magnafluxed (Checked for Cracks)
3. Bore/Hone
4. Line Hone Mains
5. Deck
6. Shot Pean Connecting Rods
7. Balance Recipocating Assembly
8. Assemble

You might can build one for around $2,500 if you did all work youself...
Just my opinion

I was thining a 383 yes, I dont know much about mechanical work, my dad has never really passed on his knowledge which he regrets, so we're going to start teaching me with the two trucks we own now, My dad and I would be doing the engine yes, we prlly wouldn't do machine work though, How much do you think that would cost? And if needed any help he has two mechanics working for him that both race, one has a 66' Chevelle other has an 81' Chevy, Their two cars are strictly race, no show..

-Small Off-Topic Story-
The one with the 81' only has around 4k in it and it was running high 11's and low 12's these numbers were with a 150 Shot, He blew his motor after ragging the crap out of the truck.. My dad told me one time he went out infront of their shop on Highway 5, and started accelating and turning into a doughnut, and he shot about half his tank, and the truck doesnt have power steering, well needless to say he eneded up in a field off the highway and almost ran into the fence b/c of oncoming traffic .. The truck he bought for 2k with no engine worok, lasted 2 years of stuff like that.. He said he thinks after the engine is rebuilt he should be running low 11's or high 10's...

Sorry for getting off topic but my point was that we could always have one them help us some and pay them like $20 hourly...

My desire right now is to build a reliable truck, but will also get off the line at a red light or somethin.. Not geared towards racing, just something that would be hella fun to drive.. My truck before this was a 1996 Dodge V6 w/ 3" Lift.. That truck could barely maintain 60... I would like to achieve 400-450 Horses rebuilding myself..

Thx
Gideon

$$$$$$

As for your question to me will all depend on what u want done as in how much u will spend on paint...

My truck is completely painted inside and out and bed and front clip was takin off windows taken out

I had a two dings taken out as well and one small hole on my front fender cut out and fixed in all with them fixing it all going over the whole truck sanding it priming in the cab and out
Paint,

Was about 2300....

I had all other body work done my self cab corner, rockers
Shaved markers, etc

I dont know how good of a deal I got. I could have gotten it done cheaper in my town but it was at a less credible shop and and I payed cash and since i payed cash i got 200 bucks off
MY truck has 3 coats on it.....

Personally Im very happy with it.... i dont really know if i got a good or bad deal but another shop in my town wanted 500 less one wanted 1000 more so hard to say what you will have to spend....

You have a good truck to start with so good luck and keep us updated.......

Right now the plan for me is to keep it forever.. It would be awesome to able to keep it and not have to resell it, I've heard many of ya'll that regreted selling your first project car.. For now it will be primary driver, once I get up on feet I might get somethin else.. But i LOOOOVE old chevys... Camaros, Chevelles, also like Dodge Chargers..
