Or cut half a coil off the front. Only expense then is time and maybe u bolts. Like the truck, BTW. And I'm actually a fan of having the same size tires all the way around on these trucks. How's the clearance with your 285s at the front's current elevation?
Overload spring has been gone from the get go. Good idea, though. The tires do not rub anywhere currently. They actually only rubbed with the shorter springs because the top of the tire would hit smack in the middle of the inner fender on bumps. There was never an issue with the hitting the outer edge when turned, etc. I did roll my fender edges, not sure how much difference it made.

How is removing leafs spring going to raise the rear suspension?

You're right. Once the axle is on top of the spring, removing lower leaves won't change the ride height. Have to move spring hangers down on the frame or do something like that to gain elevation.

Local Junk Yard, or post a WTB add in the classified section.

After I did my flip kit on the suburban it was too low also. I got a 2 inch lift leaf from 4 Wheel Parts. The leafs were made for a Jeep so I ended up with about 1.25 lift. They sell two widths 2.5inch and 3 inch. Just make sure to get the one that matches your current leaf width

Re: Raise the rear an inch or so after a flip kit? Rake looks messed up.

Still pondering this since I think I'll have the same dilemma when I lower my truck. I was thinking about having a second set of spring perches welded on above (opposite) the stock ones. There are shallow ones available so I'm hoping to limit my drop to between 3.5 to 4 inches. The external axle diameter on a 1/2 ton axle is 3 inches right? And how about swapping in 4x4 spring hangers if I needed to raise it back up a bit?

You can swap your rear spring hangers (the very rear where the shackle attaches) to a 4x4 spring hanger which is longer. This will raise the rear about 1.5" - 2". If That is too high, adjust lower with a small block between axle and leaf springs.

2wd hanger on left, 4x4 on right.

Thx WR, that's good info and that picture adds a lot to what I was trying to envision. In fact, it looks like if I get ahold of the 4x4 hangers that I could drill mounting holes anywhere along their added height to get the height I want. Keeping in mind that lifting one end of the spring one inch will net me a half inch of actual lift. I'm inclined to go this direction since I'd rather not cut into the bed supports. If I leave the axle as 'spring under' and try to lower it with shackles it'll put them right into the bed supports. Now I just gotta find some 4x4 spring hangers. Thanks again.

You can turn your stock rear hanger over to have the shackle pointing down also. It was good for about 1.5" on my blazer.
