Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

With the condenser and radiator set in place. I had to cut the frame a little more but things seemed to clear fairly well. I am debating if I want to move the engine and trans back about 2-3 inches. I have room and feel I need to. But man it will be a task...

Cut in the caprice oil and trans coolers. They sit right behind the grill bur the lines are touching the grill. I will reroute them later or nibble the grill out a little. either way it appears it all fits..

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

I cut off the bottom side of the inner fenders and went ahead and hung the front end on it so I can check all the clearances. The only area of concern is the oil and trans cooling lines rubbing the grill. My inner fenders need some work or I need to find some different ones. I still intend on using the caprice inner fenders meshed into the 64 fenders. Still having a blast!!!!

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

Picked up a "parts" truck today for the bed. It is a 62 Chevy Fleetside with a lot of parts. No motor and trans was in the back. Step son showed up in his "going to dinner" clothes and couldnt resist so he through on some overalls and dove in. This "PARTS" truck is going to make a mean Rat Rod...

Spent some more time mocking up the radiator and should have some pics tomorrow. The plan has been made but wanted to sleep on it..

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

After much thought and measuring, the only option was to mesh the caprice core support to the 64 support. I could have gotten away with a different option but wanted to add the AC condenser.

I just am curious, what made you decide to do such an ambitious project? I think it's really cool, and it will be an original but I also recognize it's a ton of work to do. Good on you for being willing to do it for a cool ride.

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

So you think I am a little

I was looking for a 60-66 truck and then happened along the caprice and thought the engine and trans combo would be perfect for a project. Then, when the wheel base and track width matched up, I thought "what the heck".. I could make a list of all the late model technology that the police package has.. And have you seen the list of chassis upgrades you can get for a caprice?? There is another group of crazy people that worship the 94-96 Impala SS and they come up with all kinds of cool stuff for the chassis and engine.

The hardest part is laying awake at night figuring out which jigsaw piece to grab and sledge hammer into place!!! The further I go the more I think about how much to insure it for. Cause if it is wrecked the Body shop is going to be scratching their heads trying to figure out how to fix it....

All in all, I hope it is as cool as I think it will be.. If not it will look good on the side of the river keeping the bank from eroding...

No, I don't think you are crazy. If that's the case then all of us on the forum should be in a padded room at some point Like I said, it was a question driven solely by curiosity. We all have our reasons for doing our projects a certain way. Doesn't matter what others think about it, if it makes sense to you, you enjoy the work and have fun then it's well worth it.

Thanks DieselWrencher!! We got a good rain last Friday. But other then that is has been dry. I would love to do one of the other trucks I have with 4BT!!! That was my original thoughts 2 years ago. I have my eye out for an engine but I want to get it cheap...

I love it, but I might be nuts, too. Considering how much work I am having to do on mine to update technology, yours is a lot more plug and pray than mine.

Keep it up, it's looking great.

I boxed the frame in where the core support is going to sit. Went together pretty well..

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

I had some extra hands yesterday after a family Christmas dinner and put them to work. I set the bed in place do get an idea of how things will look. The body lines arent quite lined up but it gives me something to go off of.. it appears to be just about right. I measured another truck and may be 1/8 inch off..
