Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Made some more progress. Got the steering installed, took some measurements from a truck just like the donor and got every thing pretty close but will find out how I did once I am able to drive it. Here are some more pictures.
Stock 5.3 oil pan looks like it belongs there from the factory. My intake not sure if I will leave it like that, but for now it works. Radiator fan, it looks small but is actually good size and it will move some air quite nicely! I wanted a bigger one but have very little room to work with. Finally getting started on the cab. It has the typical rusty spots. The previous owner attempted to repair the rear drivers corner poorly, and made a custom dash for it and hacked the old one to hell, so i will make my own custom one that looks nice. I plan on using this Dakota Digital Universal setup. The steering wheel and column I am going to use. |

Awesome video. You have got way more knowledge than I do on the engine stuff. It won't be long now and you will be driving it around!

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
I like what you have done with the motor and suspension. Its coming along nicely.
That cab is in really bad shape. With the amount of time and cost of replacement sheet metal you might be better off finding another cab to start with.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
The cab is actually better than it looks in the pictures. I do have another cab on my parts truck and look about the same as this one, maybe even a little worse. I already have the hole the PO hacked out for the heater patched, and the hacked up dash pulled out so I can start working on my custom one. My plan is to just use some of the spare pieces of sheet metal that I have to patch the small stuff and buy a big piece for floor and front sides. I will need to get one patch panel for rear left, the right side is good.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Looking good. My floor patch job will be very similar to yours. Can you tell me where you got the metal and the thickens??

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
two questions..... your drive shaft appears to be 2" too short. Is that just the pics? Are you concerned about how much your gas tank is going to hang down below the bumper?

For the gas tank that picture makes it look lower than it is, but I have the skid plate for that tank that I will also be installing for extra protection. |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Have you thought about raising the tank? It looks like it could move up a couple of inches. Just curious as it would be protected more and look asthetically better once it is all together.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Just for reference, I have a 33 gallon tank on my '46 which mounts in the same location. It does hang a little low but has never been a issue. Mine is a no where near a show truck so looks are not a major issue, I can however go over 400 miles on a tank.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
I might raise the tank once I get closer to finishing the truck and make all the final small adjustments. I measured the distance today and I can raise it up 3 inches.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
It was pretty cool when it fired up for the first time. Now just need to put it all back together.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Putting the front end together and getting all the parts aligned up so I can drill the new holes to mount the inner and outer fenders to the cab. This is the most the truck has been assembled in a long time.
I'll be going to pick up a box tomorrow, from what the pictures look like it should be pretty decent. Will post some pictures when I get it back to the garage. |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Nice looking build. I like the LS a lot. How much of the wheel sticks out of the front fender? If it isn't a lot or can be circumvented by using a narrow tire that looks like a great way to go for IFS.

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Slowly making progress on the truck. Put new supports in the bed and got one side almost painted and primed. I may sand some parts back down and put some more filler, but I am not trying to make the truck perfect. I am trying to go for a hot-rod / rat-rod look.
Also got one of my led tail lights built. I have done better circuit boards before but they work plus its hidden under the lens. Running lights Turn / Brake light |

Re: 1947 Chevy Truck Hotrod
Wow I like those tail lights. can you tell me if there is a schematic you used or did you just use you good old American ingenuity?? Also how much would it cost for all thew materials to build one.
And about the wheel width. Yes there are better ways to do an IFS but several have done it this way and like it, so to each there own. Especially if you are wanting something that sits like a 4 wheel drive then that is even better. I almost went that route myself. Hell I did go that route. Then I got a little nervous about it and decided I wanted something lowered so I went S10 Chassis swap instead. But there is nothing wrong with your build. Keep it up man!
