Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
I've got two sets of those wheels. If I remember correct one set is Ansen and the other is American Racing. It took me a long time to find a set. The center caps are always rusty so I never put them on. They are 16.5" wheels.
Yukon - how is the blazer coming along? You may see a few of your parts I got from you on this truck I'm working on. |

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
I was wondering if some of those parts were going to end up on it. The K5 is coming along. I've got a thread going in the K5 section on it. I had the 400 sbc rebuilt and ought to be installing it shortly. Then just a bit more work and I can finally take it for a spin.
I've got to make a point of checking out this forum - had been wondering how this project was going but was only looking for it in the 4x4 forum.

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
I'm in Batavia right off of 32. I still have the complete pile of parts. I had it all sold once but then I had my accident and the guy found another one. I'll want to find someone who will want it all. The body is a 87 K30 and I bought it up near your way at the end of 2005. I will have the extra title for the 85 C20.

I know the feeling of owning Series 30 Chevys. I've had 7, 3 were C-30, 3 were K30's, and my 88V-30 which has 12K on it! I haven't driven it much like my others but, it's a great feeling compared to driving my other trucks! Last edited by Dooley; 01-17-2007 at 08:10 PM. |

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
Those are 33" BFG Mud TAs at the moment. 35" would have fit fine too.
This 87 is technically called a V30 also. I guess they did that before they went to the new body style. |

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
Your truck looks like it coming together pretty quick! I love it. Would you mind taking a quick measurement for me? I need to know what it measures from the ground the the wheel well in front and back if you could. I just put what I was told were 4" springs up front but I think they are 6". Thanks for the help.

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
I think it would be a more accurate measurement. If it was taken from the middle of the bottom fender lip to the top of the rim or center of the hub. That would eliminate the tire size difference and get a better spring height.

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
I measured from the middle of the front lower fender lip to the center of the hub and get 29". I'm not sure what that is telling me. This is a 87 K30 with a Skyjacker lift. The front had an additional leaf added from Skyjacker for the weight of the big block.

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
All I have left to do is the wiring for my trailer winch and it will pretty much be done. I finished the stainless exhaust about a week ago.

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
Wow!!! nice Dean did the thought of swapping the AC compressor and Alternator cross you mind, I know a lot more work but that really would have cleaned up the top end of that Monster Engine, but still a killer looking Ride.

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
I'll have to get some pics of the exhaust and post them on here.
I've only drove it aboout 50 miles so far but the ride doesn't seem much different than either of my 71 or 72 K20s. I would have changed the belts on the front of the engine to a serpentine one belt set up but the alternator and complete A/C system was brand new so I didn't want to replace it at this time. If the A/C dies in the future I might change that compressor to an aftermarket. The current system was on the 350 in the 2 wheel drive truck and I never opened any lines to avoid any more work. That is funny that dyr in sweden means expensive. That is about the truth but it would have cost me even more to buy a brand new truck and I wouldn't have been happy with those. The 572 would be good in a Chevelle but I'd probably buy the highest horsepower version for a car. |

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project
Thought I've give a little update on my K30. I've towed a few loads so far and no big issues. The 572 with the rest of the truck works great in pulling a big load. I've got a slight vapor lock when the engine gets warm issue which I need to completely figure out somehow. Any ideas on that would be appreciated.
The rearends with the lockers, rebuilt TH400 with shift kit, rebuilt NP205 and ever other piece I rebuilt or replaced works great so far. The first pic was my Chevette and the 2nd was one of our antique Rumely tractors which I took to an expo show near Columbus Ohio a few weeks ago. |
