Wow. I remember following this thread back when but I forgot about it. Hadn't seen it since before the boy got his ticket. About a month after I got my license, I got a ticket for going 33mph over the limit. Since it was a "paced" ticket I tried to lie to the judge (to be fair, they didn't make me swear on the bible first), that wasn't a good idea.

"So you're telling me that my deputy, who I've been good friends with for twenty years now, lied about how fast you were going just to teach you a lesson?"

"No, I'm just telling you I wasn't going that fast."

In Texas, after 25mph over the limit, they can stick you with the maximum penalties allowed in every aspect, and she did with everything but jail time. $500 fine, 20 hours community service, 6 months probation, and mandatory defensive driving.

When I sent in my completed defensive driving certificate and community service form after 2 and a half months with a letter explaining that I wouldn't be able to make it to my scheduled 3 months court date because I had finals, the court clerk called the next day saying the judge had decided to end my probation early and expunge the ticket from my record for my "good behavior".

I guess she thought I learned my lesson. Do we ever learn our lesson?

He went in to explain the "circumstances" to a judge, who reduced the fine to $360 and set him up on a payment plan. He's got about a third of that paid off and I've coughed up the keys. I think the "Stupid Move" title may be a curse.
My pal didn't come through on the frame deal and I've still got that to handle. Right now there's no mounts between the rad support and the frame horns. Little bolts and pyramids of fender washers holding it all down but not much support side to side. No bumper neither, it's whacked!
It's parked half the time because he can't afford to keep fuel in it. It runs well, but is really fat. He built a franken-Holley and I'm sure some tuning will help with mileage and manners.
We live out of town a little bit and at least once a week I'll drive over some suspicious burnouts. There just ain't many you see that are 100% posi from scratch to scratch. The track and tire width make it obvious too. He's got a tire machine and a steady flow of take-off tires running through his shop class, so he's always got some kinda rubber on there. I see those marks on my way home from work, get home and sniff them wheel tubs out. We exchange grins - "That you?".....(Grin)....."Nah, the pup won't turnem like that!".....(Grin)....."Whatever!"
I still owe him the frame repair and some basic paint. I also need to get my project back on track. Better haul some wood up to the shop!!

It was painful that day, more so for him I think. Now I look back at it and remember the hail I was rasing at that age... He did spank a turbo import but I'm still in the lead.

Be glad they didn't throw the "pre-arranged drag racing" charge out there. That's a huge one here with big penalties.(Don't ask, we all make mistakes in our youth)

Junior poached a big doe at 50mph on Friday night. Radiator, core support, fender, grille, hood... Took over most of the shop on Saturday fixing that mess. Not shown is the big-ass GONK in the side of his bed from the high school parking lot.

Sold his bike so he can do spindles, drop leafs and cal-tracs. He's going to do Vortec heads and intake too... Just what he needs.

Sweet little truck . I worked on one in high school quite a bit . For 3 different owners , same truck tho .... i guess you know where im going with this . Lol. 350 on the shelf . 2.5 4cyl back in till he "grows in to it " I going thru the same dilemma with my boy . I'd love to build him something cool but I was the mirror image of your boy in my teens . Think maby a 40 hp VW may be in his future .

It's all coming out of his thin little wallet now days and I think he's getting the picture I ran some little air-cooled's around when I was his age and ended up with a few 1776ers, dual carbs and stingers!

Chip, the truck is now called "Punching-Bag". You are a slick talker man! I saw on some other thread "The sun shines on a dog's ass once in a while.." or some $hit like that. My gawd! I laughed my ass off!

So he sold his soul (pristine CR125R - almost OCD) and ended up spending a chunk of that on some aluminum heads. Some outfit on EBay called J&E or J&C Enterprises? They claim to take the best "budget" aluminum castings and do Ma and Pa machine work with "good" valves and hardware. 64cc chambers, 2.02/1.60 (I think they even offer bigger valves but I think that'd be real risky!!) and a variety of runner cc's. He got something like 190cc runners? Glad he didn't take the bait and go biggie.
Anyways, we really looked them over when they came out of the box and I gotta say they looked good. Nice looking valves, adjustable guide plates, and overall nice finish on the machine work and de-burr. We didn't take any valves apart to feel out the guides but that's his deal.
He already had the thing torn down and cleaned up. Big Brown rolled up around 5:30 with the heads. After a brief inspection we went to town. Fired up about 1:30 this morning, no leaks, quick test drive, tick-tick-tick-tick... I'm not liking the adjustable guide plate / self-aligning rocker dealio he's got going there, at least the way it is now.

It sounds great, hauls ass and I'll get a burnout vid. Tires are problem in this boy's life but there's cool marks on the road in front of my house.

I'm honored! I'm sure you know, the plate/rocker combo is bad juju. One or the other. You were my morning chuckle, I loved the video! "Oh-oh, Wifey's home." Ha ha, sounds like my house. Last time, she caught me riding the mountain board up the street drinking a beer (we were safe, it was in a can, I'm not silly) while the 11 year old was towing me on his XR80. Damn, that's fun. "Get in here! The neighbors are gonna call the cops again!"

Boy's gonna need to look into a stouter rear. 'Course, if they're always spinning, not a lot of shock load on the rearend. Has he found a gig yet? thanks for sharing all this with us, I get a kick out of it. It's a frightening look into the future!

Yup, guide plates are gone for the time being. Prolly a new set of stamped steel rockers and some HARDENED push rods in his future. These heads are machined to accept gen 1 or Vortec intake and valve covers. We noticed that the valve covers sit a at a slightly different angle. Turns out that the tick, tick, tick was actually a little rubba-dub-dub between the rockers and valve cover! A little hammer work cured that until he can get something different, once he gets a JOB.

I'm surprised that Lincoln Locker has held up as long as it has. On jack stands there's quite a bit of backlash in the axle splines. He was talking about a *ord 8.8 as a common swap. I think you gotta use two short axles and cut one tube down to narrow it though. He did find and score a spare trans last week . I think he's gonna kit that and swap them.

Tires are his issue. Before he welded the diff, and was still sporting the 2.8, I bought him a fresh set of four matching. Those are long gone...

I should do a little update here, wish we had a GoPro. I read back and laugh because the "plan" with this thing changes six ways to Sunday between each post.

Current dramas:
Trans still pissin oil out the tailshaft - smoke ROLLS off the exhaust.
Motor oil in the bell housing.
Oily clutch, barely holds.
Frame is still tweaked - no mounts under core support, tires wear.
Can't believe the rear end hasn't exploded. Lots of racket and clunking going on tho.

I was in the Silverado jumping on the highway WFO coming home from Grandma's tonight and he blew by me like I was pulling up to the second window for my fries. The thing sounds beeetchin. I should grab another vid.

Bet there's a couple teef laying in the bottom of the diff. Check on just frame shops in the area. We used one for yeller, not as bad as you'd think. Glad he's having fun with it. Lucky kid, to have a dad with the shop and the smarts to support these kinda shenanigans.

Motor build and smoke shows coming soon. The Eagle rotating assembly showed last week but was the wrong bore. Big box says 0.060" but the little boxes inside (pistons/rings) are 0.030".... At least a two week delay! Truck is outside in the shed
