Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
The front posi option is rare. I the C/30 Stepsides. that's one truck I'd like to have stock to the bone.
Here's my contribution to the picture collection. Check out the hub caps. It seems odd those are on there when the correct ones are 10x more available. I wonder if those optional wheels were ordered and they are only made with clips,so GM popped them on. I have never seen them with nubs.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
Heres a truck I have always been courious about, it was on Ebay about 10 years ago and was sold to a guy in Oklahoma. I kept in contact with him for awhile, this was supposidly a factory C/30 dually with a 9 ft stepside bed. It looks like it could have came this way but I never could get a pic of the SPID. I searched all my silver books and dealer literature and never found any evidence of such an animal. He was going to take the bed off and said he would sell me the extensions for the rear fenders..lost contact with him and never got them.
I always assumed the extensions were aftermarket and recently saw a set on a 56 chevy stepside that was converted to dual wheels.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
Now fast forward to this week, I found a C/30 stepside fire dept. brush truck in Texas for sale. Owner claims only a little over 6,000 miles and never been more than 20 miles away fron the dept. It looks kinda rough for such low milage..and wouldnt you know its missing the glove box door! I talked to the owner and he confirmed it was ordered as a C/30 single wheel truck and the dually rear axle was installed when the truck was new. That was proof enough for me, I knew if it had been a factory dual wheel truck the front would have been changed as well. I'm sure if it had been available the fire dept would have ordered it with duals and a bed..heck all they would have had to do at the factory was left the rear fenders off. Sure woulda been a Cool option tho.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
Blazerman - those are sweet.
I never mentioned this before but our '69 GMC short stepside was the Hugger Orange/Red color and was quite popular around town. The local fire chief lived down the street from us and was so taken with it that he ordered a 4x4 version as the fire station's "brush fire truck". I don't think it is still in use but they had it for many, many years as I was growing up. K

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
I have a 67 front and rear posi. I use it for my daily driver. It has a click-strip label on the dash above the radio that reads "built for Dallas Schultz"
This truck is a tractor is disguise. This same truck also has two spare tire carriers in the bed. Cannot prove that this is factory, but they seem equally worn and similarly painted.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
I have a 71 1/2 ton 2wd swb fleetside. Very basic truck with almost no options except it is a 250 six with a T350 transmission. It's on the SPID. It also had a V8 fan shroud as well.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
I also think a 9ft stepside 4x4 would be cool, either K20 or maybe a factory K30 with a D60 up front. IŽve seen a picture of a fire truck somewhere like that. It was a GMC long bed stepside, canŽt remember if 8 or 9 feet, 4x4, manual and it had the 3500 logo on the fender. It looked all stock, but maybe someone just made the fender tag with the 3500 or swapped it on there.
IŽd love to have a truck like that myself, winch bumper, tall skinny tires and call it good.

I always like stuff that is not average.. and all these special order trucks are way cool! Someday I need one for myself... Is there any good website to possibly find 67-72 chevy or GMC fire or brush trucks? Like low miles, no rust 4x4 3/4ton stepsides?

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
So would a short wheel based 1969 C3 2wd dually 4 speed truck be a rare truck? or is the 4x4 what makes the truck rare?

Not sure which truck you're referring to,but if you mean 117" WB when you say "shortbed",GM never built a C/30 in that WB. The short WB C/30 would be 133" with the long WB being 157". The short C/30 has a 6" longer WB than a long WB C/10-20. The only GM 4wd 1 tons prior to '77 were converted 2wds by an upfitter such as NAPCO,Coleman,Marmon Herrington, etc.

I knew the guy wouldn't be interested in selling in the middle of an open checkbook resto or I definitely would have made an effort to meet him. I owned a similar truck that was stolen,a '71 C/30 NAPCO conversion w/utility body. Back when I saw this truck I had a dozen or so trucks already, including 3 '72 3/4t 4wds. A Cheyenne Super Custom Camper,a Custom Deluxe Highlander Custom Camper (w/4spd),and the Sierra Custom Camper I still have. When I get time tonight I'll post about the Highlander w/pictures

Short box 1/2 ton with 16 inch wheels. Struck me as odd.

Re: Unusual/non-conventional/odd/COPO Trucks
Saw this just today. Factory headliner but not a Cheyenne. Colored dash bezel but not a GMC. Glovebox door laying in the longhorn bed but SPID illegible. Big block by the way....
UPDATE: I'm reading 'Custom Camper' fender badges would/could trump Cheyenne fender badges so maybe this isn't so unusual or odd.

Lynnwood pull-a-part. Pretty well picked over. Nice bed wood (see dash bezel pic).
