Re: orange gmc swb on ebay

I didn't even know you could get a solid orange truck in 72. Every one I ever seen was orange and white. This is a super nice truck, especially original paint inside and out. It would be nice to have the money just have a collection of these trucks already ready to drive.
I'll take it too.

Re: orange gmc swb on ebay

No where in this listing does the seller claim the truck is 100% original. In the heading it has the words "original" (because it is an original Sierra Grande, not put together and also mostly as it came from factory) and "unrestored" (meaning the truck has not been torn down and had most of it's parts replaced with new or reconditioned).

It is the truck GM built with a few minor personal touches that have not taken it so far away from original it can not be easily put back.

Changing a grille or wheels that simply bolt in/on leave a truck easy enough to return to original. A paint job, seat cover,or any other cosmetic upkeep don't qualify it as being restored.

By the comments on this thread I'd say someone did a great job of lightly modifying a fine example of a '72 that few would not want...just as it is. That is one hot truck since day one. And a 350 can have enough goodies hidden inside to run circles around a 402. 40s is a higher upgrade option to ad to the list, but oh well. I'd rather have the little mouse, personally.

Re: orange gmc swb on ebay

Well said Tim. I often tell people that I am restoring my truck. This doesn't mean I'm restoring it to original but that I am restoring the pieces that are at the end of there useful life. Sometimes I add personal touches so I guess that technically means that it's a restomod and NO ONE as if yet has torn me apart for saying that I am restoring my truck and they can clearly see the 5/7 drop. Nor do I imply, that by saying I'm restoring it, that it has no aftermarket parts. It's easy to pic apart a truck but for me it's a lot more fun to just drool over it.

Re: orange gmc swb on ebay

The term resteration means different thing to different people. Some on the pure side try for flaws in the paint or waves around a certain stamping. Then on the other side you have the ones that try to perfect every piece. These trucks were put together a long time ago and the fit and finish from that time laeve a lot on the table. And then there are some of us is it pure maybe[I am not talking about this truck] is it correct probobly not. Now on to this truck it is really "super " in my opinion and I for one would love to have it. It is tastefully done . I just wanted to point out varible in restorations.

I agree hugger it's all in the interpretation.

Gorgeous truck. I just wish people would not advertise that it is a "numbers matching" truck because there is no way to verify that with these trucks like there is on a lot of cars.

Re: orange gmc swb on ebay

The only way to verify "numbers matching" is the protecto plate or the build sheet...which most often is missing in these trucks.

Re: orange gmc swb on ebay

Mine is a numbers matching and I have the protecto plate to prove it.

Re: orange gmc swb on ebay

I think what people mean their truck's numbers match is when they have a '72 truck,it has all the correct equipment with numbers for that year. I mean, the casting numbers will trace to be correct for '72...not just ant 350 from somewhere between 68 and the '90s...or a Goodwrench or Targetmaster. And,that is original and matters to many.
