No major rust but most of them have some rust, even here in AZ and this one is included. The rockers and floors need some work. Roof is extremely clean which is nice. Lower front fenders and channel that mounts behind it need to be patched as well.

Re: 1964 short step 292 "AZ Valley Cruiser"

I have been busy gathering parts. I ended up purchasing a Hobart 140 handler and loaded it with .023 wire to do my sheet metal work with. My Miller 175 welder is at my cabin so here is one more thing I ended up needing 2 of. The Miller was tough to dial down for sheet metal anyway so this hobart will be nice and it is more portable.

I ended up deciding on an S10 T-5 transmission and I have ordered a T-5 swap adapter from Hamilton intakes which properly aligns the T-5 to my 292. I will be able to use my stock bell housing and pedals this way.

I picked up a real nice seat a week ago. Nicely done and never been in a truck since it was done.

I sure hope so. I am thinking the extra gears will offer me a whole better range of usable gears for streets and highways/freeways.

Good chatting there TJ. As I mentioned, I have been spending all my time on my white '64 long step. It's getting well into the 90's here everyday and I need to get that one wrapped up so I can use it all summer up north. The short bed build will probably slow down during the real hot months.

Here is the longbed:

Re: 1964 short step 292 "AZ Valley Cruiser"

Hey guys it's been a while since I updated this build thread but it is progressing.

I decided to purchase another cab this week that I came across for $300. It was from a guy I bought some other parts from last year. I had had my eye on it but he would not sell it separate from another truck he was selling when I asked about it last year. It is about as rust free as they come and it will save me all the work of fixing the rockers and corners. I'm sure most folks back east would be happy with the original cab, but with super clean ones out here relatively cheap, I had to go for the clean one. So I will just sell the original cab for parts. It has an awesome roof, I may just cut it off and save it and scrap the rest of the cab.

I went to a swap meet yesterday at the AZ State Fairgrounds in Phoenix and scored on 4 really nice heavy duty dollies that came from a body shop. They are what the new cab is siting on now in my garage. I think it was a good score for $70 for the set.

Here's a few pics:

Thanks TJ - yeah I have been real busy on about 1000 other things but it feels great to be back working on the truck some.

I started stripping the paint off the last couple of days and so far no surprises. So nice finding such a clean cab, just a couple of roof dents to deal with but the original primer is under the paint still and I have found zero bodywork other than a respray sometime along the way. I picked up a stud welder to pull the roof dents.

I need to get rid of this other cab.

I pulled the original cab off the frame today. Here are a couple of pics of the "parts pile". The cab in this pic is the one I am getting rid of. I hope soon because I don't really have the space for it.
