Re: Trucks with the shortest list of options?

I have GMC dealer paperwork... I think it is '68, it states that color is an option, and if no color is opted, it comes in xxxxxx color. (like I said, I think it is fawn).
While pigment was a no cost option, it was still an option. You had to specify that you wanted it to be red (or whatever) in order to get it, otherwise, it came in the base color.

Re: Trucks with the shortest list of options?

I don't have a picture of the spid, but I used to have a 1967 truck that had only paint color and interior color listed. In addition, it was both radio and heater delete. I always thought it was about as bare bones a truck as you could order.

I guess they stretch the word option, because a no option truck would be one that had nothing that cost extra on it. A base truck would be a short bed Stepside 6cyl with all other models optional, technically. 4wd,V8,and Fleetside are technically options, but GM made them their own model. So,there are several base trucks. The reason the gov't bought Stepsides is because they had to go with the lowest bid and that's a big reason Stepsides were continued to be offered. I have '71 Chevy dealer paperwork and there is no mention of a base color. I wonder why you see Fawn listed on '68 SPIDs. I'd like to see a SPID with no options, including color listed. It may exist in books but I doubt in the real world. Her's a '67 GMC SPID with no paint color listed but Fawn is the interior trim color:

Just stumbled across this old thread looking for cost of options...

Tim, that SPID looks familiar It does have the paint color listed, look at it again. Its coded for teal, which the truck was. I've found traces of teal poking out under the repaint.

The one Steve Hafner posted has a paint code listed as well

My SPID is long gone, but the only thing it came with was a heater.

Mine has heavy duty brakes,IIRC heavy duty cooling(just 2 row rad with a 250) and color options.I don't remember if the seat is listed as an option though all Panels were considered equiped with an optional Passenger seat if they had one.I've never seen one without though.

The SPID that I posted is from a panel that only had a driver's seat.

Re: Trucks with the shortest list of options?

i'll agree on what the books say verses reality.
I have also noticed fawn listed like you described... what I was reading could have been GMC only, but I think it was just book verses reality.

Re: Trucks with the shortest list of options?

Here's someones interesting 67 short bed 6 cylinder that looks pretty original.

Is this the fawn color on the door panel that would be the "standard" color ?

. . . . .

In a base '67 truck the interior paint didn't match the exterior,as in years prior. They were either Fawn or that silver/grey according to exterior color and the vinyl matched interior paint color.

Re: Trucks with the shortest list of options?

that's a SPID with no options.
The heater was kinda interesting. It was a standard equipment item, but if you didn't specify it, then you got a heater delete, and you were credited the cost towards the selling price. (again, GMC info)

Not loaded but probably average compared to all models of 67-72 trucks. They "opted" for a 4x4, V8, 4spd, and a few other nice things. The 4wd and V8 are "big" options that separate it from a true janer 250 I6 2wd truck.
