Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
I always wondered what happened to that Blazer in your 1st post. I grew up seeing it around. I think the guy worked at Dresser Wayne in Salisbury, if its the one I am thinking of. Looks like it must have been a beach buggy. The one you have on the trailer now though looks sweeeeeet.

Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
Yes mine (the red one up top) belonged to Vaughn Payne. He lives in Salisbury just south of the university right off of Rt. 13 Business. He was one of my grandfather's best friends. Believe it or not I'm disassembling Kurt's Blazer and carrying the tub and a few other parts over to my red one. The red one has too much sentimental value for me to scrap it. So I needed a new tub. I got more than I bargained for with Kurt's truck! It's going to be fun piecing the two together. I hope to have it done by summertime.

Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
Let me know if you end up with some good parts left over that you want to get rid of. I could use some better doors, fenders & hood not to mention rear 1/4 patches. You know, nothin major LOL
Whats the plan with the drivetrain out of the one you got from kurt? Def. a sweet looking rig Richard

Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
I definitely will have some stuff to part out including a hood (or two), maybe fenders, and a bunch of other parts. I will post a list once I get it here and assess everything.
Probably going to keep the drivetrain from Kurt's as mine is 40 years old and has never been touched as far as I can tell. She's tired. And Kurt's is really nice. Quote:

I still need to get up that way to grab the parts we talked about so maybe we can all meet and give a hand on disassemble on a Saturday or Sunday. Its always cool to meet other people with the same interests. Richard

Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
Yeah if you guys are willing and able, I could certainly use the help. My goal is to have a driveable truck by late spring / early summer. Going to need all the help I can get. Takes 2 1/2 hours to get here from Salisbury. My grandparents lived on St. Luke's Road in Fruitland. Been going there since I was a baby )30 years ago).

Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
Do you still have the floor you got from out west? I might be interested in it.

Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
Have a few progress updates and photos for you while I'm waiting on Kurt's Blazer to arrive. I disassembled the driveshafts and u-joints, and am in the process of cleaning them up and then will paint or PC them. GREAT instructional thread at http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=492271 on how to remove and service u-joints. Here are some 'before' pics…
Also stripped, cleaned and painted (Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Black) the original leaf springs and installed new poly bushings from LMC Truck… Things should pick up a bit now. Stay tuned for more progress. |

Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
Finally got my driveshafts apart, cleaned them up and am ready for paint or powder. Just not sure which to go with. Only trouble I ran into is the black plastic(?) washer on the one drive shaft broke when I was removing the shaft (photos below). Anyone know how I can get a new one on there? The one that was on there was not flexible, and therefore would not stretch over the spline section of the shaft to get it to where it needs to be. Not sure what to do, or how important that washer is.
Also cleaned the rear diff cover. Does anyone know if it would cause problems for powder coat the back/inside of the cover? |

Re: Project OBS (Orange Blossom Special)
Sold the wheels and tires. Now I'm getting around to tearing her down. Gotta get the body off and to the paint shop, and the axles off and in the mail to Danny in CA.
