Army/Navy/Fleet Order?

there are a few out there i picked up a 72 Navy truck that i'm building.

I've got a '69 that was an Air Force truck. I bought it from guy who bought it at a government resale yard. I have the original paperwork and instructions from GSA and all the maintenance records.

It's in about 275 pieces in my garage and drive way.

Too bad your living here where I am. They are all over out here and in great shape. Most of them are gray because they were NAVY Trucks. They are step sides, fleetbeds and 1/2, 3/4 and 1 tons. We have allot of old people that live in this little desert town and allot of these trucks are owned by old people. What is really neat about these old trucks is allot of them are unmolested and they are not restored, just maintained. Good Luck on your quest. Cool Thread!!!!!

You know, I'm not too sure. It has a standard VIN plate same as all the others, and, of all things, I found the remains of the 'Protecto-Plate' and all the numbers are the same (WOOHOO-matching numbers!) The glovebox door had been left open and open to the elements for at least long enough to completely fade out the SPID. The only obvious option is shoulder belts, I guess that was a military standard at the time.

All I know is that my father-in-law got it from his cousin's ex-hubby. I remember their kids driving it around quite a few years ago. The ex hubby has always worked at a huge army/navy surplus yard in Ogden, Utah, so I'm sure that's where it came from. What I don't know is if there was any bad blood in the divorce that might have something to do with the no title thing. someday I'll get down the the DMV and find out what's up with that.

Here are some pics of a 72 SWB step I picked up a while back for $500(!). No engine/ trans, but the SPID says it was a 350/ TH350, PB no AC truck. It also has PS. I am guessing it was Army originally. The firewall and inside of one fender is still olive green. (The other fender has been replaced at sometime.) The interior metal is silver and looks original. The PO had a velour seat, "headliner" (similar to a Cheyenne, but no trim) and door panel inserts made. I have a set of pretty nice green Cheyenne door panels I plan to use. I forget what color the seat belts are. I plan to make it a driver with a 350/ 700R4 that I have in the barn. I have a tilt and tach for it as well. I found the SPID pretty interesting.

Here in Western South Dakota (<--- That sounds wierd) we have Ellsworth Air Force Base. I've seen USAF issued 67-72's in that Military Blue (Dark Blue) and outside of Military, I've seen U.S. Forest Service issued trucks and there is one running around here still that is Yellow (not bright but like railroad yellow maybe), it has a square emblem/decal/etc on the doors but for the life of me can't remember what it says/used to say... But I kinda want the truck because it looks so.... vintage beat-up used authentic cool...

[COLOR="black"]I have bought 3 CUCVs from the "open to everyone" site as listed above (gsaauctions.gov) and it is very simple and the paperwork is just one form mailed or faxed to you and then you present it to the office that is holding the truck. You will need to file a credit card with the site , that costs $1 and checks the card. It seems most have gone to service with rural fire departments or the forest service, either way the mileage is low. I have also trailered many parts into and out of Canada, including entire rolling chassis and as long as it is not a compleate truck then it has always been considered parts for myself and there was no paperwork at the border. I guess you could pull it apart and make a few trips if you need the whole truck. You will get a "GOV'T TITLE" when you make the purchase and transfering it to Canadian later may take a few tricks. It has been well worth the effort. The last compleate running 87 I picked up cost me about $1000. I kept the entire driveline and sold the body and running diesel on Craigs for $700.

I have a 1974 short fleet that was an old Navy truck. It was a 250ci I-6 with a 3 on the tree. Somewhere down the line someone put a 350 turbo trans in it. It has the dash plates and still has the chain attached to the gas cap so you can't lose it.
