Well I just talked to the body guy that is doing my truck and he said he uses a few coats of primer before he puts on the paint so the heat wont kill the paint job. He also said he doesn't put a clear coat on it, but I can't remember what he said he did use instead. I can post up a picture of a whole lot of new parts, but not a complete 496 yet. I suppose I could snap a pic of my little sbc that came with the truck. Its dressed up a little.

I didn't realize so many people were running big CI motors in their trucks.

16 horse power and 15 gallons to the mile(makes a big slurping sound but goes nowhere). I love it, the smell of a bit of oil and gas. Smells like, AMERICAN IRON!!

No money by itself just doesn't get it done. It take planning and the ability to do your own work...all of it. I paid $3200.00 for the truck; pulled the anemic 350 and TH350 trans which I sold. Three years of turning wrenches, welding, grinding, priming and an additional 22K in receipts for engine, trans, overdrive, headers, rad, fans, gauges, brakes, springs, spindles and miscellaneous stuff and my truck is done. Do you think that 540 Merlin cost less? let's go ask. Could you get some shop to build this truck? Maybe, but not for $25200.00 you can't!
It's not about throwing money at a truck. It's about planning your build so that when you are finished you have what you wanted. I have what I wanted. A truck that will run through the Quarter mile in the low elevens on street tires with the Air Conditioning on.

So when you say ," Go ahead... it's only money" you, sir, are just wrong. There's a great deal more to it than just money.

You shouldn't run with the AC on....water on the track is a bad thing.

P.S. I know what you meant

Well....yes it is. With street tires I stay out of the waterbox too. But it sure does sound cool to say you made the last run with the AC on.
