Re: 67 SWB 6 cyl cruiser

We are finally making progress.

Learned a valuable lesson. New sheet metal is cheaper, much cheaper when you figure body work, but unless you completely install every nut and bolt to fix it first, it will all need modification, and usually after paint.

By then end of the week we may have all the metal on it, and then I will get pretty slow knocking out my punch list.

Re: 67 SWB 6 cyl cruiser

Thanks for the support.

Can you imagine how hard it must have been to rebuild these trucks BEFORE the net? It sure makes it easy to fire questions out there.

Attached are the last pics for a month or so, due to vacations. The truck is buffed but has not been waxed yet, maybe this weekend. I will put the bumpers on and fit the tailgate, which is giving me fits. The grill trim was stamped steel on this base model truck, and it has been chromed and came out great.

The last pic is the truck we started today. It is a 67 SWB 4x4 on a 70 frame. The cab and engine have 47k miles, but the chassis has been all over Colorado. I am taking it back to stock, and will paint it identical to the little red one.

Just read the thread for this. Great looking job on the truck so far. I really like that you kept it as an inliner.

Re: 67 SWB 6 cyl cruiser

I used CPP.

They really screwed up my order, and it took them months to ship everything.

No instructions, and the biggest issue was they would not listen on the phone to what I had, even when I told them it was going to be a problem I got the standard, "It will fit".

Well, 11" power brakes do not fit with a stock 250 air cleaner, even though I asked before placing the order. And a 67 frame does not have a recess for the PS gear to sit into, it must have a stand off bracket, although I knew from this forum there would be an issue. And the rag joint kit does not need a universal joint to work, and the shipped the kit with out enough copper brake line washers, no mounting brackets for the rear disc brakes, and on and on.

Re: 67 SWB 6 cyl cruiser

Not much progress.

I am having to trim sheetmetal on the inner fenders to make things fit, so at best I knock out 1 a week on a afternoon. Slow going trying to protect the paint. My other truck is also starting to come along http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post2826812

I have all the parts now to finish it, except some shift linkage an the A/C kit.
Trying to decide if I go to an LS2 package at this point, so I am procrastinating...........

Nice truck! You've made some serious progress in a short amount of time. And I agree, from experience, that more than 1 project at a time will definitely slow you down, . Take good notes (and inventories) so you don't get the 2 confused and end up buying something you don't need......... Keep the pics coming................

OBTW, you made a great choice of colors, .

I will be in Santa Fe this weekend for the Wine and Chili Festival. If you are in the area let me know and I will buy you a drink to get some truck ideas. Love that motor!

That sounds like a great idea, but unfortunately I'm going to be out of town this weekend, . Thanks for the offer, maybe next time.

I have had similar experiences with CPP, and I don't mean to sabotage your thread, just feeling your pain. They have great products, but it's nearly impossible to get the equipment or a straight answer from them. I called three times over 2 weeks on a part they forgot to pack on my original order, and all three times I heard "shows it'll ship out tomorrow". I still don't have it and that was almost 6 weeks since my original order. K, back to your build...

Re: 67 SWB 6 cyl cruiser

Well it has finally cooled off enough to start working again.

I have a bit of a problem with the steering column.

Once mounted, with the new steering wheel, it was REALLY into the seat.
The new wheel is 1" deeper. And I used the new CPC shaft/rag joint mount instead of using all of my old column collapsable shaft.

Luckly I have another column and I hope it will be the same, so I can just collapse it an inch and then move the column in an inch.

Another minor issue is the manual shift on the column. If I go more than an inch it may have clearance issues or the shift rods might not be long enough. My 70 has the same set up, so I am basing this off looking at it.

Any help from someone who has done this would be appreciated.

Beautiful truck. Love the '67s. I understand your comment about new sheetmetal, I should have replaced alot of panels on my truck, but sence I was doing the work, it was my time I was donating...

Keep us posted with pics... nice work!

Click the thread for more info, but my school is hosting a fund raiser car show for our Autotech class, since close to 7k worth of tools was lost and stolen between the time it opened, to this year which is the 1st year we had auto tech in our school.

And I'm trying to get a few local 67-72 guys out here, and your truck is awesome.

Re: 67 SWB 6 cyl cruiser

Hello Texan,

Did not catch the thread, but I will try.
I have a long way to go.

Today we got the rear bumper put on, but are having troubles with the front one. The difference in height between frame horns is causing one side to almost sit on the front sheet metal. We may have to tweak something to make it fit.

The other shot is of the new location of the steering wheel, moving the entire column in 2" and the wheel 1" closer.
Does not look like much, and if I can, I might try to move it a little farther in later. Drilling for the bump tab is much quicker and easier than cutting a slot with a cut off wheel.
