Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Thats my goal also, something that looks cool and is cheaper than a new truck!
My 05 2500hd crew cab 4x4 gets around 15mpg with a vortec around town ,but it looks like the other 2500hd which is something i really like to avoid. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
get in touch with Heath Diesel if you have any questions. They live and breath these motors. They've got a land speed truck with a 6.5 and have set a bunch of records.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
On the subject of lining the interior...
The fire engine I drive at work has Line-X brand liner sprayed on all the interior surfaces. We like it very much for day in-day out usage. The texture is not rubbery at all. It seems to be wearing very well too. As for sound deadening, I cannot speak intelligently about that. It's a fire truck after all and we wear noise control intercom headsets due to the sirens. Sorry about the low quality pictures, I snapped them with my eye phone.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Work has kept me either busy, or exhausted, but I finally got my 6.5 out of my 93. By far the biggest pain in the ass to get that out.
I built a platform to reach the back of the motor. works good if you need to be that way for a while. Now I just need to figure out which sensors and wires I need, and then I can get the 93 out of here. Anybody know if you can convert the newer style ac pumps to an on board air compressor? I also need a layout of the wiring and sensors for a 93 K2500. Last edited by woodwright; 04-18-2011 at 03:42 AM. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Makin progress slowly. I'm trying to get the frame finished so I can clean and paint it. I needed to clearance a couple of crossmembers for the 4" exhaust, and patch a few holes. I'll post some pics soon.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
I'm pretty sure they are the stock rims that came on my 70 k10. Do you want them? I'm not gonna use them.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Finally got the frame done, cleaned, and started painting. I'm useing napas version of por-15.
A while back I borrowed a 33" and bolted it on to see how it looked. I'm gonna have to run 35's I think. While the frame was upside down I built my rear shockmount crossmember. I'll get some pics soon of the painted frame. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
FINALLY!!!!! Got some paint on the frame.
I think I'm gonna spray the final coat. I need the practice if I'm gonna paint the body. Does anybody know of a website, book, or inexpensive dvd that teaches how to set the gun up? I've sprayed before, and work with floor finish all the time, so I know how it needs to lay. I have a nice Sharpe HVLP gun, i just need some help getting started. |

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
ha! You've proven that your imagination and fabrication levels for this truck are above and beyond the "requirements" to do a buildup!

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
Almost done with the frame. Brushed on the first coat and sprayed the last 2. Flipped it over to get the bottom side.
Also hung up all my brackets and got a coat on them. I'm using SEM rust shield from Napa. Originally I was using it without the hardener, because it makes it a little glossyer, and really wasn't all that impressed with it. But with the hardener it is really hard stuff, and sprays nice with 10% zylene. I really want to get this thing done but work has kept me buried. I guess I shouldn't complain though. Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel
The brackets actually weren't too bad. I hung them from the ceiling with wire and sprayed them. Today I got the frame flipped back over and started bolting brackets on.I'll take some pics tomorrow
