Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

Couple more things done. I have all the patch panels in & it will be In primer soon. I picked up the rear seats plus the third seat. Waiting for the front seats & floor pockets for the 3rd seat to show up. Getting ready to cut the dash to mold in the 06 Yukon XL center console. Should be fun!

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

Taillamps are being fabed in today. I'm going to give each one an eyebrow so the lamp is more level. 396 is being torn down & stripped for paint. I don't like the Torker intake so a new Performer RPM is one the way. Progress is happening daily!

Sweet progress man!

What didn't you like about the intake? I just picked one up at the PDX swapmeet for mine.

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

I don't like how the carburetor sits in an offset position. I'm just kind of anal about certain things & symmetry is one of them. If you know of anybody that wants a Torker 2 for a BBC then let me know.

Yes, that was the most hideous rear bumper I had ever set eyes on! It was a smart cars worst nightmare!!!!!

The roll pan will have the exhaust coming out of it with chrome trim rings the same size as the tail light bezels. Bringing it all together! I went with two sets of 4" lights since this things butt is sooooo huge. Baby got back!

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

The rear floor donor has arrived. 2005 Yukon XL. It pays to know people in the wrecking yard business!!!!! I'll keep progress photos coming. All of the doors are repaired & awaiting primer. Waiting to finish quarter panel repairs until the floor is in.

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

Progress is happening but...slow. The center floor brace/crossmember was pretty rusted. We cut it out & decided to replace it with the 05 Yukon floor section. This will make it so the 3rd seat passengers wont have their knees into their chests. Frame rails are being cut, modified & boxed to accept the new floor section. Why am I doing this? Well...because I can

Thank you for the complements! I honestly would have rather had the tail gate version. The rear barn door hinges are huge & take away from the look I was going for but...I'm not changing that now. It's going all black so they shouldn't stick out too bad.

I looked at that but we had already put huge hours into the modified tail lamps. That would all have to be removed to do the Yukon hinges. With all the mods going on with the rear floor we are at the DONT ADD ANYTHING ELSE stage! I pushed my suburban project ahead of a 70 Challenger RT project for a customer so I have to get it done, or at least all the fab done.

Re: Project 70 Yellow Turd

Installing this rear floor has been a project in itself. That's a lot of welds!!!!!! By installing the rear floor and crossmembers from the 05 Yukon XL I will have all the strength required for the seat belts to work as designed. Having the seat belts built into the seat is very convenient but puts a lot of stress on the floor if it is involved in an accident. This baby isn't going anywhere!!!! Front floor crossmembers will be modified as well.

That is going to add a bunch of room inside. Looking great. You could melt down that old rear bumper and make a few Kia's! Keep up the good work!

If you melted down the beer cans consumed while taking that bumper off you would have a comparable metal for two Kias!!!!
